Myspace Layouts
Natasha Johansson is 19 year old Singer Songwriter from the Barnsley/Sheffield area. She has been playing the guitar for over 10 years but only began singing recently, after discovering a hidden talent at the Barnsley Rock and Pop Song writing course in 2004. Natasha has an ever growing collection of other instruments including the keyboard, mandolin, banjo and violin, which will hopefully feature in future recordings. Natasha has played numerous venues including the Grapes and Café Moco Sheffield and, as well as outdoor events such as Ethno in the Park at Ethno England 2006 and Windy B Folk Festival. Natasha has been very successful in various competitions including winning first prize in a song writing competition in 2007 for her song “Hello”:
Natasha Johansson has not just two but six strings to her bow.
The multi-talented A-level student can play six instruments and has just used her skills to win the UCB Song Writing Competition organised by the University Centre’s music department. Natasha pop-rock song ‘Hello’ beat off competition from Sheffield, Wakefield, Rotherham and Barnsley. As the winner Natasha won the opportunity to use the University Centre’s brand new industry standard recording and mixing studios. Pete Birkby, Senior Lecturer at UCB and competition organiser told us, ‘Natasha’s song really stood out from the crowd. I think she was a very bright future ahead of her.’ Natasha managed to sing and play every instrument on the track (apart from the drums) to complete her song. Natasha told us: ‘I’ve been playing acoustic guitar since I was seven but I never expected to win this. It’s very exciting’. The Barnsley Chronicle
Natasha is also a member of Damsels in Distress, an acoustic pop duet with Carly Trew, and teaches folk music at P.A.D.S in Barnsley.
LIVE AT THE GRAPES:
Review from the Yorkshire Music Collective:
Natasha Johansson - Hello
Definitely this week's best. I really like her voice. Reminds me of The Sundays. Sometimes the vocal isn't perfect but the overall sound is lovely. Must listen to some more. Thanks Natasha for making my visit worthwhile.

(Enough in third person I think!) Big thankyou to Pilch and Steven for supporting me and the Damsels with their fab videos (see above) and photos which have been really great! Also thanks to Ethno England 2006 for the best inspiration in the world and convincing me I could actually sing! And obviously for the very nice comments from you guys! :)
