Band Members: Here’s the 3 minute history… originally called the South West Experimental Pop Band it included Davey, Chris and Corrine. Formed in 1995 they dabbled in the studio with loops and sample based songs. Fat Paul (local Svengali) wanted them to play a gig, so they did their debut gig at Rough Trade’s record shop in Soho in the summer of 1996. Davey and Chris helped Paul get a record label, Swarfinger, together. A number of singles, eps and a compilation were released on Swarfinger. Corrine left to form Alpha. Keith Bailey and Joe Rooney joined the band. The debut album Discgrotesque was released in 1997, being released in Germany on Bungalow Records. Davey did some DJ nights in Berlin and contributed some songs to the band Le Hammond Inferno (through this connection the band later signed to City Slang Records and began to tour in Germany). The album received critical acclaim and the group did a John Peel Session and a single Boutique was covered by Sophie Ellis Bextor. The band moved to Cup of Tea Records for a few releases before their second album Homesick released on City Slang in 1999. This period for the band was incredibly difficult as bass player Chris who had been terminally ill, died just before the album was released. Homesick was critically acclaimed in the music press and broadsheet newspapers. Mark Barber joined the band for tours of Europe and the UK before recording the John Parish produced The Tracksuit Trilogy in 2001. Mark left the band and joined Jukes. Phil Wilmot joined the band. Again the album was critically acclaimed and the single Bang Bang Your Dead was the bands first proper video which you can see on You Tube. At this stage City Slang entered into a deal with Virgin Records. Unable to compete on major label record sales the band’s deal with City Slang ended. The band took some time out before releasing Tarmac and Flames on Cooking Vinyl Records in 2004, again to good reviews and the band’s first Glastonbury appearance on the John Peel stage. The band severed their ties to the label and began to develop the ideas and songs for the new album Tinsel Stars now available at www.triumphantsound.co.uk
