HOW THE HELL DID I GET HERE?
It occurred to me as I was trying to get my reel up on this page, how the fuck did I go from playing in a successful jam band to becoming a song oriented rock musician? As I listened to some of my music (which I haven't played for years), I realized my tastes and direction have gone from one extreme to the other. While the focus of Soup was more about musicality and what we could do as musicians, it was always about playing good songs. It was our evolution as a band over 8 years that we finally understood it was about servicing the song more so than ourselves. Unfortunately once we discovered this, the life of the band came to an abrupt end.

The above player does a good job of showcasing my evolution as a musician and how Soup naturally transformed from a jam band to a pop rock band, and even more so, how I continued to delve deeper into the world of rock after Soup was put to rest. I now know where my heart truly lies in playing music, and the Orwell project shows were my head is today. To me music is all about the song - the crafting of the tune, the band sound, the image and the stage presence - that when combined perfectly, embodies the most powerful music format ever to be created: Rock and Roll. Scroll through the player below. Clicking up gets you to my roots, clicking down gets you to where I am today. So, with that said, back to the beginning...

Soup - from the Soup! EP (2001)
It all started with Jesus Christ Superstar, or my prenatal interpretation thereof. Born in San Diego shortly after, I was told I was drumming before I left the womb. Grew up in New York and Massachusetts, left home to go to college in Syracuse where I first started to pursue my professional music dreams. Before I was unpacked I was searching for members of my new band - didn't take long. Over the next 4 years we developed a sound and tunes that got attention so we took it to Atlanta to try and take it mainstream. Soup was born and we dominated the jam band scene in Atlanta for quite sometime. Right when things were looking great and the band was going to take off, personal conflicts began and everything went to shit. Since then, I started a management company ( SoundArt Management ) to help other newbie and indie bands get further than I did - also hoping it would lead to the right players for my personal project. I've been searching ever since to no avail. Fell into some projects here and there - found my true calling in rock n roll and tried to start a political rock band (Orwell) in the light of Rage meets Zeppelin - couldn't find the right frontman - so we disbanded... Back to square one. I'm hoping myspace can open my search to a whole new network of people who love to listen, talk about and/or play music as much as I do in hopes that they are (or know someone who is) a serious rocker who wants to take it all the way.
