Songwriter/Singer/Guitarist/Producer/Party Planner/Egomaniac ... “Pauly†started playing in metal bands at the age of 12. Switched to new wave at 15 after buying a Missing Persons record. Played guitar in a professional goth circus music rock n roll outfit called PLASTIC PRINCESS that sounded like the Village People meets Slayer. Opened up for Gwar, played Warped Tour, had an eccentric manager, and was sick of wearing tuxedos. With all that said and done formed his own band EGOSTATIC in 2001. Took over as main songwriter, Guitarist, and lead vocal role. And started plotting a way to invade young minds and hearts.
After many years playing live and drawing large crowds to feed the pockets of many a club promoter in Chicago, to help provide “a scene†for fashionable and trend setters of Chicago. Egostatic then decided to branch out and play staple venues all over the Midwest, as well as the Atlantis Music Conference in 2004. Releasing two definitive e.p.’s Mandatory Relapse Control and Where The Title Should Be along the way. The song “Sugar†went to 1 for three weeks on the radar report for XM Radio , and was also a top request on Chicago’s Q101.
2 E.P.’s and 300 unreleased songs later, EGOSTATIC has been featured on the soundtrack for the “CARPE DIEM†dvd, for Fox Sports/Innervision; the new DAVID BOWIE tribute album “CONTAMINATION†doing the classic “FAMEâ€. EGOSTATIC is also featured on THE CURE tribute album “STRANGE AS ANGELS†putting a spin on the song “THE WALKâ€. Both releases are now available through FAILURE TO COMMUNICATE RECORDS.
In 2005 Pauly stayed busy playing guitar on other artists recordings such as L.A. based glam outfit Jupiter Blue, and Chicago rap artist Napalm. All the while getting great revues in such publications as Guitar Club Italy, and The Illinois Entertainer. In May of 2006 Pauly was a hired guitarist for the opening act for Disturbed on a tour of the U.S.A. and Canada. While playing arenas to capacity crowds he was also writing the first Egostatic full length in his head….
The recording process started in Pauly’s home studio. Recording over 50 songs over the next year and trying to narrow them down to 14 without taking away the flow was a hard task. The record would be called “Red Swan†and would act as a diary of the psychosis of 3 years of personal conflicts, love and turmoil. In early 2007 the record was in the mixing stage when Pauly received an e-mail from director/producer Brian Metcalf. Metcalf was working on the final cut for his movie “The Dreamlessâ€, and asked permission to use the song “Sugar†for the opening credits. Pauly agreed and the two established a firm friendship and decided to work on a video in L.A. for the song “Way Up Highâ€. After many discussions on the scam that is the music industry and how it doesn’t cater to the artist, Metcalf decided that Egostatic would be the first signed to his new upstart label Ratio Records. Taking a new approach to how music can be distributed internationally, Ratio concentrates more on the visual medium and an innovative approach to reach new listeners. Hence, “Red Swan†was delayed to be a part of this new venture.
In the meantime while the video was in post, Pauly scored some scenes in the Steve Woo movie “Exposureâ€, as well as contributing the track “Radio Flatline†to the Showtime series “Californicationâ€, starring David Dechovny. Egostatic has also solidified the lineup for the live shows that will take place in 2008.
“Red Swan†takes the listener through a whirlwind of emotional landscapes. In the upcoming months Egostatic will be posting many unreleased tracks from the sessions only through the Egostatic website. As well as video outtakes, interviews, and acoustic performances. Egostatic will be bringing their live spectacle of bombast in 2008 to venues all over the continent.
