..THE SOUNDBITE BIT--------In my humble opinion, the monotony of the modern world lacks that pinch of mystery, or rather the world doesn't lack it, but we do. Those eyes with which we used to watch, ears we used to listen and tongues with which we spoke created legends, tales and cultures; stories in song. The night was a place of howling banshees, fires and full moons, and this is where I draw my music from. I have many ranging musical influences like everyone, but it is folklore that really catches my attention, and by folklore I don't just mean traditional music, because really folk music isn't restricted to a style, it's everywhere, because folk is just people, their hopes, desires, and protestations. Flamenco or reggae is folk just as much as traditional Irish music is..........................................................
.........................
In this world where we are sold everything and given very little, imagination should be placed on the endangered species list, but music is the remedy, where we can jump and leap and be whatever we want to be and fight whatever we want to fight. The truth comes in song, and myths and legends can be truer than we believe, whatever musical style they come in..........................................................

Simon Stevens : Avalon / Stepping off the Train / Hills of Albion – EP Single – (UK, 2007)****“The music has surely convinced me. Simon Stevens proves with his plainly expressed emotionality and clean song orientation as if dressed for live presentation that blues expressions (Stepping off the Train), hints of psychedelica, and certain links to troubadour occasions (Hills of Albion) can all go hand in hand … and indeed expand his range of expression. In an interview Simon said;--------------------------------
“See folk music is normally seen as a British thing, a guy with a guitar and harmonica, or a lass singing solo or playing violin, you know that kind of jazz. But if folk music is about people, then it’s everywhere. Take reggae for example, it’s really just West Indian Folk music when you think about it. Or rap music is the music of Black Street culture, or it used to be before the started singing about arses and diamondsâ€----------------------------------------
The website shows campfires. Hills of Albion is hypnotically loaded with mostly many acoustic instruments, and creates a more mystic, psychedelic feeling. A name to rememberâ€-----------------------------
- review by Jack Foster & Gerald van Waes, Radio Centraal, Antwerp, Belgium -------------------------------------THE "WHAT HAVE i BEEN UP TO LATELY BIT"-------So…what am I up to these days? Well, “Avalon†comes out at the end of august (stay tuned for info), available on itunes/napster globally to download, with 10% going towards a woodland community where I grew up.The Rambling Boy Tour crackled into life this summer, on Saturday 30th June at the Old Ship, Hackney, London, and continued at the Riverfest in Essex & Mersea Island Festival which was healdined by Slade. I also recently headlined the opening night of the Guestlingbury festival in East Sussex, and have been seen at the Bull and Gate in Kentish Town, the Camden Barfly with Mark Hammond and most often at the Constitution also in Camden. With more venues being arranged in York, Leeds, Northern Ireland, Edinburgh, London and a possible tour slot supporting Danelle Harvey from Tygahoney Music to be announced next year, it proves to be a busy time. I have also received airplay on The Music Rhino Show on www.totalrock.com, a random showcase on Radio Centraal in Belgium, CJSF Radio in Vancouver, Canada and Seldom Heard radio in New Hampshire, USA. See my Blog for details and links.
A music video is in production, and I’m still recording my debut album “Myths & Legends†which I hope will be out later this year.
A genuine thanks for listening. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Stay well,
Simon-----
