In the begining, there was a singer, guitarist and helicon player, Jiri Buksa. He tried to take folk music and give it a rock interpretation, so he rehearsed with more than ten musicians. Only after he had managed to persuade violinist, Lukas Spanihel, the first violinist of Solan dulcimer music, and accordion player Roman Vavrik, an experinced musician with a classical music education background, to join them, did the band experience their first success. Then singer and mandolin player, Lucie Redlova, concurrently performing with her own repertoire, joined the band. Drummer Karel Mikus, well-known thanks to his 10-year collaboration with Mnaga a Zdorp band, has endowed the band with a powerful rock undertone. In the spring of 2004, Martin Kuchar - en experienced dulcimer, jazz and rock double bass player - joined the band.
The band looks to the folk music of central Europe for their repertoire. About one third of their songs come from Wallachia, and a substantial part consists of Slovakian, Polish, Hungarian and Romanian songs. The musicians stick to an acoustic sound, they approach the legacy of folk cautiously, although at the same time without unnecessary reverence - they treat the music as a living creation capable of transformation.
Also Roman..s original songs to the lyrics of Marta Prochazkova (Husle = Violin) have become a natural part of the band..s folk repertoire.
Cutting a new album MEZIRECI in a Czech radio studio in Ostrava wasn..t Docuku..s first recording experience. In the summer 2003 the band recorded two songs (Ci to chlapci, Husle) included in the sampler CAROHRANI, released by Indies Records. The song Husle in particular met with great success: for instance, it was one of the most frequently played songs on the Proglas radio station. Thanks to the recordings on the Carohrani album, the band received an invitation to participate in the EBU Folk Festival in Pula, Croatia.
The album title "Mezireci" carries several meanings - the first is connected to the town of Valasske Mezirici (Mezirici means "the land between the rivers"). The other one is derived from the meaning of the Czech expression "mezi reci" that, translated word by word, says "between speech" or as we say in English way, "by the way". This phrase, used to introduce a new idea into one..s talk, can thus symbolically refer also to the oscilation of the band between different musical styles as well as between being musicians and having other responsibilities in life (university, work, children...).
In spring 2007 the band records in Brno Indies Records Studio second album called "Domrte!". This album collects positive reviews both from the critics and the audience at festivals and clubs.
Recently the band is collecting and rehearsing the material for third album.
