About Me

"Music is my love, my air, my religion. I enjoy creating the music just as much as I do dancing to it. It is a movement that is meant to be felt, expressed and shared." -Tara Stadnyk Born and raised in Northern Saskatchewan in a home with the sounds of David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, Queen and Neil Young unfolding from the stereo on a regular basis, the love for music pretty much comes naturally. "Though music was always my outlet for expression and escape growing up, I did not discover my calling for guitar and voice until October 2005, when I took a beginner's guitar class at Dickinson State University, North Dakota. The woman who taught the class was truly an angel; she opened a new door for me, and from then on I was hooked. I was drawn to the ability to express my joys and pains through music. Since then, I have resided mainly in Saskatoon, where I have been writing and performing on a regular basis. What once seemed a terrifying stage is now my playground where I am the boss. Lovely."
A unique blend of soulful melodies and haunting tones inspired by strong poetic sensibilities like Plath, Eliot, and Sexton, Tara creates a beautifully fresh musical experience. She performs at a variety of venues within the city, from the laid-back coffee shop atmospheres of Mystic Java and McNally Robinson, to the rock n' roll crowds of Bud's on Broadway, The Roxy, and Louis Pub on Campus. Tara's flavor of music fits into a scope of genres, especially when teamed up with the Man of Rhythm, Christian Kongawi, who is often seen on stage with Tara laying down something freakishly hardcore nasty on the djembe.
"As of January 3rd, 2008 I became an official "English Major Drop-out" at the University of Saskatchewan where I had been studying the last year and a half. The decision to leave was made because I had not been making enough sweet, sweet love to my guitar. Now I am able to focus entirely on developing as a musician and using my creative writing abilities for self-expression and spiritual relief... writing songs from the heart of a lover."
