This is a band of brothers that has literally come together from the far corners of the world, Struggled their way from war torn countries, escaped Soviet Occupation, and wrestled with the constant emotional conflict of finding your place in this world." Sound the alarm... The Rebellion has begun.
Websters dictionairy defines rebellion as; (refusal to accept some authority or code or convention; "each generation must have its own rebellion". A rebellion, insurrection, revolt, rising, uprising , (a postive organized opposition to authority; a conflict in which one faction tries to wrest control from dominating force.)
Josh Palmer can’t wait to share The Rebellion, its sound, its epic songs, its moments, with the world. “ I have spent a year and a half devoting my life to this new chapter. Songs of sorrows, happiness and anguish and everything in between. This is a band of brothers that has literally come together from the far corners of the world, Struggled their way from war torn countries, escaped Soviet Occupation, and wrestled with the constant emotional conflict of finding your place in this world.†Come, join in and listen to the sound that is The Rebellion.
The first single, “Savior†is already burning up the radio and internet. With lyrics like “ So I don’t feel tired and weak, when we beckons a smile at smile, I know there's something inside, wanting to come forth and inspire me,†is what Josh Palmer describes as the moments that get us through the dark. Theses are the moments of light that deserve to be sung about.
In just over a decade, Palmer has gone from child prodigy to Canadian celebrity. He has toured across the nation from coast to coast by the time he was 17. Released indie solo albums And was watched by 3.5 million people every episode on Canadian Idol in 2005. Palmer was revered for his originality, his rebelliously nature to not be changed or conform and won the nations attention and respect by staying true to himself. An almost impossible feat to achieve when in the very bright spotlight. But such a bright spotlight is hard to elude. And in 2006 Palmer, had realized one true thing. About all the accomplishments he add achieved with Idol, he had not achieved independence as an artist. A true artist. He had been too closely associated with Kids who sang cover songs. Frustrated with not being able to showcase himself as real artist. Josh Palmer came to a crossroads, “ I was completely depressed, sad and angry with how things had turned out, I had a great time with idol and the people on the show were amazing to me, but I had not achieved the one goal I set out to do. To be taken serious as an artist first and not a singer from a TV show. I was alone, and bandless and had no career after. It wasn’t about fame or money, it was about being able express what’s inside my soul. I knew that if I could pull my luck around and in vision myself doing amazing things, then I could inspire others to same. Just as my hero’s had taught me.†Palmer was at a crossroads in his life. “So I had a choice. One was to Continue to be sad and get doors slammed in my face and be known as that guy from Idol. Or, continue to make new music, continue to grow in a positive way. To reinvent my self image… to evolve…to revolt… to reform… to rebel.
Rather than continue on the course of doing another solo album, he decided it was time to start a new band. He recruited Romanian Multi-instrumentalist Silviu Moldovan on bass, and Congolese percussionist, Christian Kongawi on Drums. A truly multi cultural spirit binded this band together. The trio, headed on the road across the country, creating new music and new exciting moments on stage. The Epic live show has engulfed audiences across the nation, and have brought them all the way to such prestigious festivals as the 2007 Juno Award Festival, showcasing in Palmer’s home town of Saskatoon, Sk.
The name came to Palmer as he was searching for the perfect description for the music and the band. Daring, original, positive. Palmer and Molddovan (his new bassist), brainstormed for hours and then it came to Palmer. The aha moment that described everything he needed to do. To break away from his old self image, to reinvent, revolt, reform… to rebel. Thus, The Rebellion was born.
The Spirit of The Rebellion goes deeper then one might expect. It hits home. Its Universal and very personal. Band mates Silviu Moldovan and Christian Kongawi have shared incredible experiences in darker times of history. Silviu’s family fled the Communist Occupied Romainia in the 80’s and came to Canada when he was just a boy, going almost 3 years without seeing his father. Christian’s family sent him from the war torn Congo in Africa, at the tender age of 10, to live safely in Canada with family friends. The Rebellion isn’t just a name, its fate and completely real.
The new album isn’t what you expect an Ex-Idol to come out with; its mixes and instrumentation are on the epic proportions, of U2 or Radiohead. From the pop melodies of “ Change you at allâ€, to the explosive guitar and anguish of “ Been Forgottenâ€, their music pleasantly shocks and surprises.
“ This is no side project. This is the next chapter in my life. If you liked anything that I did in the past, then come, join in, and listen to our Sound. I get to me. With a great band of likeminded individuals, and its something that we can’t wait to share with the rest of the world.†Sound the alarm… The Rebellion has begun.
