The Universe Speaks

About Me

From Saskatoon, Saskatchewan comes a unique, eclectic mix of musical genres performed by the 7even Levels. The bands’ lyrics and musical style have been influenced by the folk music and songwriting of the early 60’s, and the rock and roll spirit that evolved later in that decade. Singer, songwriter, and guitarist Kelly McTavish (25) and drummer Parker Rice (23) began playing music together in grade school. From the onset it was clear that these two had a knack for writing great songs. They recorded and wrote songs continually over the next number of years, but it wasn’t until Mike Kwas (23) joined the duo on bass in March of 2006 that the band, 7even Levels, was formed. The 7even Levels had a taste of things to come when they took the stage for the first time in front of over 500 people at the Eagle Creek Jamboree. This marked the first public performance of songs that would later be heard on their debut album. After an exciting summer of performing, commitments with post-secondary school forced Parker to turn most of his attention away from the band. The band re-united in March of 2007 and was featured on the CBC Television series entitled, “Unsung”. Shortly after Kelly, Mike, and Parker got together to begin work on the 7even Levels album. The album was recorded in a month, but the band never became fully engaged again until their western Canadian tour in October 2007.Eleven lyrically intense songs with infectious melodies were chosen for their self-titled debut album. These songs highlight many common life themes that involve nature, politics, spirituality, and love. What separates this album from those you’ve heard before however is simply the inability for the album to be easily classified. It is not often that you are forced to stop and ask yourself what musical genre you are listening to. With songs as diverse as the members in the band, you are challenged to do just that. Their music seems, too country to be rock, too rock to be folk, too folk to be country, and so .. listening to the album it becomes clear that the band, 7even Levels, is unique in their ability to deliver a great song without all of the excess production that is heard on most albums today. Simply put, their music can only be described as the 7even Levels, something they are extremely proud of.
