Violette

After having studied piano and percussion at a Parisian conservatory, Violette started singing at the age of fifteen. Armed with a solid vocal technique gained by the study of the classical repertoire, she soon felt a need for a greater freedom of expression. One year later, she fell under the spell of the Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong duo recordings, which awakened her to jazz and Afro-American music. She discovered then with this music an incomparable creative mode that she began to explore further in Paris (Black Music School, Centre des Musiques Didier Lockwood) and in the United States (Berklee College of Music). Her repertoire appears like a delicate blend of Traditionnal Gospels, Jazz Standards, Soul classics and originals. At the early age of twenty, Violette sings thus her passion for the Afro-American music and culture.She has been performing in Parisian Jazz-Clubs (Sunside, Le Baiser Salé, Les 7 Lézards, le Café Universel, l’Osmoz Café), aswell as in Dakar, Boston, St Marteen, Prague et Dubaï (Arabian Court). In 2006, she took part in several Jazz Springboards such as Jazz a Vannes and Jazz a Crest. That same year, she co-wrote and recorded the song Dorian Island on the amazing Thomas ENHCO debut Album Esquisses.Her warm and inviting voice, tinged with the diverse influences of jazz, blues, soul & gospel, immerses you in the heart of a genuine emotional experience.------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------Après avoir étudié le piano et les percussions au Conservatoire, Violette commence à chanter à l'âge de 15 ans. Si l'étude du répertoire classique lui assure une solide technique vocale, elle ressent très vite le besoin d'une plus grande liberté d'interprétation. Un an plus tard, elle tombe sous le charme du duo Ella Fitzgerald-Louis Armstrong: Un véritable coup de foudre qui l’entraîne à Paris (Black Music School, Centre des Musiques Didier Lockwood) et aux Etats Unis (Berklee College of Music) à la recherche des racines de la musique afro-américaine. Son chant célèbre les grandes Divas du Jazz, (Sarah Vaughan, Nancy Wilson, Rachelle Ferrel) mais reste sous l’influence constante du gospel de la soul (Stevie WONDER, Aretha FRANKLIN).Violette se produit regulierement sous diverses formations, notemment en France (Sunside, Le Baiser Salé, Les 7 Lézards, le Café Universel, l’Osmoz Café), au Sénégal, à Boston, St Martin, Prague et Dubaï (Arabian Court). Elle a participé aux tremplins 2006 des Festivals Jazz a Vannes et Jazz a Crest, et signe la meme annee les paroles de « Dorian Island », qu’elle interprète sur le disque Esquisses (AMES/Harmonia Mundi) du jeune pianiste prodige Thomas ENHCO. “Avec une élégance et une maturité surprenantes, Violette nous fait partager sa passion pour la musique afro américaine à travers un répertoire qui allie la richesse harmonique du jazz à la chaleur du gospel et de la soul”.
