About Me

A professional photographer wtih 30+ years of experience, I specialize in commercial, events, architectural and other, creative interests. I particularly love photographing musicians in the blues, jazz, R&B and rock genres and that is what I use this site to promote. If you are a band or single artist, seeking quality photography, please feel free to contact me. My work has been published in numerous magazines and newspapers around the world and I have CD cover credits with Alligator Records, Sony/BMG, Delta Groove and others. Samples of many of the great blues and jazz artists I've photographed are here in my profile under "Pics" as well as the slideshows below. You may also visit my galleries at: www.pbase.com/frankvigil and click on the "Blues For The Soul" gallery for a more complete selection. Thank you for visiting.
Each week(hopefully), I feature a recent artist I've photographed. This week's featured artist is the phenomenal Debbie Davies.
Debbie first garnered critical attention back in 1984 when she landed the lead guitar spot with Maggie Mayall (wife of blues legend John Mayall). In 1988, she was tapped by none other than Albert Collins to join his band and she jumped at the chance. In a bit of topsy-turvy, she was invited to record with John Mayall on his 1990 CD, “A Sense of Place.” It wasn’t too long before she began a solo career.
Debbie has recorded with some of the biggest names in blues, including such greats as: Albert Collins, Ike Turner, James Cotton, Mick Taylor, Peter Green, Coco Montoya, Duke Robillard, Tommy Shannon, Chris “Whipper” Layton, Sugar Ray Norcia, Mudcat Ward, Charlie Musselwhite, Bruce Katz, Per Hanson, Noel Neal, and Rod Carey. She has received eight nominations for Blues Music Awards and in 1997 won the award for Best Contemporary Female Blues Artist. She was again nominated in this category for 2008.
Joining Debbie for the performance seen below is good friend, Lenny McDaniel. Originally from NOLA, Lenny moved to Las Vegas after the Katrina disaster. An incredible musician and song writer in his own right, Lenny has toured the world and written songs (and recorded with) many legends. I’ve not been able to locate a MySpace page for him, but you can see/hear samples of his playing/singing by searching Youtube.com.
Be sure to tap Debbie’s MySpace page and listen to more of her music, order a CD from her and be sure to tell her I said “hi!”
Last week's featured Artist had two great blues artits, Smokin' Joe Kubek and Bnois King. Their new CD on Alligator Records is tearin' up the charts. Please be sure to stop by Joe's site (in my Top Friends List and check out more of their music, order a CD, add him to your own friend's list.
By the way, try hitting F11 on your keyboard to widen your browser to the maximum, it's great for viewing the page in a larger view. You can hit F11 again to return to normal!
Stay tuned for future artists to include Curtis Salgado, Rod Piazza, John Lee Hooker, Jr., and many more!
Thanks for visiting and I sincerely appreciate your feedback. Add me as your friend!

The Drummer: Featured Artist of the Week Slide Show

The drummer. Most every band we listen to has one (in some cases, certain bands actually have two drummers). However, more often than not the drummer is an unsung hero in the band, the man/woman that ...
