Brian Mac - Maturely Aged Soulboy

About Me

Long time Soul, Funk and Jazz music lover and still listening and buying current releases (Ex DJ but still like when possible to dabble a bit ). Aged 46 now and been into this since the tender age of 14, have pretty much been devoted to only these forms since 1978 (although in some clubs then you had to occasionally hear other things .. hehe). From the early AllDayers and Soul Weekenders to the current (comparatively) underground scene I remain devoted. Must give a shout to "The Jester" who still introduces me to music from all eras - unfortunately possessing only one set of ears and in my youth not an endless music buying fund it was impossible to hear every track ever released, that of course applies to anybody into this music - we will learn our entire lives.

My Interests

My music player is currently off the page due to filehost of my MP3's deciding to charge for their service. Now looking for an alternative so hope to be able to get my visitor music back soon.

I'd like to meet:

Well .. it's more of a 'I would have liked to have met' - Phyllis Hyman is and will always be my musical heroine. So sad that she encountered so much hurt in her life. Always have her music playing on her Birthday anniversary (July 6th) and June 30th the date she sadly passed on. Also added to this would have been Grover Washington Jnr and Luther Vandross both of whom made music that touched me.My 'Would like to meets' would be mostly within the Soul/Jazz/Funk music category and would be many. I have had the pleasure of meeting some UK artists.

Music:

This might take a while .. will add as I go along. But certainly my initial faves are:- Female - Phyllis Hyman, Jean Carn, Teena Marie and Stephanie Mills. Male - Teddy Pendergrass, Luther Vandross (RIP), Stevie Wonder and David Ruffin (RIP). Groups - The O Jay's, Maze, Tower Of Power and Incognito. I can add pretty much everything (that I have heard, which is a lot) on Philadelphia Int'l Records and Salsoul. I find so much good music being released now on independent labels, I just wish that the record and radio executives would give all artists better and fuller exposure (and contracts).

Movies:

The Blues Brothers, Mississipi Burning, Pulp Fiction, The Great Escape (Da Da .. Da Da Da Da Da Da .. Da Da .. Da Da Da Da Da Da Da etc), Bullitt, the Godfather Trilogy and many many more.

Television:

Very little - when I do it's either Sport or television drama's or documentaries.

Books:

Mostly John Grisham or Autobiographies/Biographies (mostly sports people)

Heroes:

Probably too numerous to mention (plus I might leave somebody out - cautious guy). Certainly Phyllis Hyman as you gather from above. To generalise I would say that any person (or group) that spreads the beauty of Soul, Jazz or Funk and its offshoots is a 'Hero' as they capture my ears and inner feelings. Thankyou all for recording or performing the music that gives pleasure. Must also mention the UK DJ's that are devoted to the Soul, Jazz and Funk scene and go to great effort with often little reward - it's a love of the music thing - Respect to you all.
