At the age of 13, I 'discovered' music. My interest was sparked when I helped a family friend with a Mobile Disco. I began DJ'ing himself soon after, eventually getting involved in events including hospital and community work, local clubs and Spain.
In 1982 I went to see Frankie Beverley and Maze live and was truly bitten by the 'Soul Bug'. Listening to the likes of Andy Peebles, Norman Jay, Jasper the Vinyl Junkie, Robbie Vincent and Radio Invictas Pete Tong, who all played a diverse, quality selection of music, my passion for Soul Music grew.
The Weekenders are also a great source of musical inspiration from Bognor to Barry Island, Caister to Southport and Prestatyn to Soul Essence with their ever changing styles.
Having listened & colected to House, Boogie, Jazz, Disco & a bit of Northern etc over the years, my taste in music has narrowed to those rarer elusive American 45's from the 70's. Commonly called here in the UK Modern, Crossover or Tent music. Us Brits love to put labels on our Music!! Blame the late Dave Godin for coining the term Northern Soul all those years ago.
Despite my love of all things 70's, I still buy contemporary artists material.
You can listen live to my radio show on www.starpointradio.com which goes out fortnightly on Tuesday nights 9pm-10.30pm GMT. I've been on Starpoint now for 2 years & was previously on another internet station for 5 years.
The gaps in between are currently filled by my other half, Niki Golding. She was responsible for the "Salsoul Presents Philly Soul Flavas" & "Disco Divas & Soulful Sista Flavas" compilations.
