World-class musician, Marcello Pellitteri, plays with an elusive blend of dazzling precision and creative sensitivity, adding life-force to every song he contributes to. Best known as an award-winning drummer, Pellitteri is also an accomplished pianist, educator, composer, arranger and producer.His abundant passion for music began early in his home town of Palermo, Sicily. As a teenager, he was already playing in professional jazz groups and had a steady gig as a studio musician on a weekly local TV show. After studying at the University of Palermo, Pellitteri headed across the Atlantic to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he graduated Cum Laude and then received a Master in Jazz Studies from the New England Conservatory of Music.For nearly 20 years, Pellitteri has served as Associate Professor at Berklee while maintaining a frenetic schedule of recording sessions and live performances with many of the top names in jazz and ethnic music. He has played with Jon Hendricks, Miroslav Vitous, Joe Henderson, Dave Liebman, Woody Shaw, Winton Marsalis, Claudio Roditi, Jack Walrath, Slide Hampton, Mick Goodrick, John Abercrombie, Mulgrew Miller, Enrico Pieranunzi, Makoto Ozone, Jacky Terrasson, and orchestras such as the Boston Pops, the New Jersey Symphony and the Taipei Philharmonic.In 2000 and 2001, Pellitteri served as the rhythmic mainstay of the world-renowned rhumba-flamenco group, the Gipsy Kings. Over the past three years, Pellitteri has crisscrossed the globe with the Grammy Award-winning New York Voices, Dave Samuels Caribbean Jazz Project, the legendary trombonist Slide Hampton, and the innovative Indonesian jazz violinist Luluk Purwanto.With over 40 albums under his belt, his recording credits include Trio (Projazz), with Aydin Esen and Eddie Gomez; 6x6 (King Records), with Royce Campbell, John Abercrombie; Bohemia (Jazzpoint), with Vic Juris and Miroslav Vitous; Sing,Sing,Sing, (Concord), with the New York Voices; Pas An Dour (Naïve), with Celtic Tales and Michael Brecker; My Marilyn (Enja), with David Klein and Mulgrew Miller and Chrysalis with Bruno Raberg (Orbis) voted best of 2004 by the Greek newspaper Apopsy .
