Right here's the history of the Trophies...
We met in a car park in 2001, no it wasnt a seedy affair. Inspired by the like of Carl Cox, Roger Sanchez & Eric Morrilo we decided to Dj together as a laugh... but somehow it took off!
After Djing together for a short space of time in 2002, we gained a residency at Gatecrasher in Sheffield and what is now KissdaFunk in Leeds. Things were going well...
In 2003 we were announced as Mixmag Future Heroes aside Nic Fanciulli and Tom Neville. We were tipped to be signed by a big agency, we were. Could it be written in the stars? We joined Dusted/Serious in 2003 and thus spread our wings Internationally getting to see the many wonders of the World in South Africa, China, Spain, Denmark, Slovenia, Singapore, Jakarta, Poland, Ukraine, Finland, Dubai and Ibiza to name just a handful. We also played at the massive Summer Sound System by Gatecrasher.
Back home things were going well and keeping us busy and before we know 2004 was knocking at our door!
2004 saw our first association with Radio 1, we played for their secret Ibiza party at the old zoo. Just a small affair, only around 1 million listeners in the UK! Extremely nervous as you are when doing live mixes, as was the man warming up for us. A little known Swede back then by the name of Eric Prydz, we also invited him to play before us at Judgement Sundays that evening, after his set he sat at the bar all night, i think his 3 day car journey had took its toll. Top bloke though!
We were guests at Judgement Sundays that year in Ibiza and back home we were playing at places like these... Godskitchen, Pacha, Progression, Bedrock, Shine, Colours, Honeyclub, The Cross, Escape and still holding down our residency for the almighty KissdaFunk!
The back end of Summer 2004 we played at Creamfields, MTV Festival in Ibiza and Radio 1s Big Weekend at Birmingham. We played the main arena to 2004 people before Nic Fancuilli & Fatboy Slim. Mid set the CDJ stopped dead, not the best... but we can laugh about it now. Great gig that, Deep Dish played a blinder as did the man Fancuilli. His cheeky bootleg of Song 2 by Blur was a moment for sure...
The back end of 2004 and we hooked up with the man the myth, Funkagenda. Starting making a lot of tunes(head to discogs.com for a full list), and before we know it Pete Tong is playing on the Essential Selection, and they are gaining support by Deep Dish & Carl Cox, who gives them 5/5. Happy days!
2005 is now upon us, we play at the big ones like Godskitchen Global Gathering, Escape in the Park, Radio 1 One Big Weekend in Sunderland and all the usual stuff in the UK and overseas...
Mid 2005 after playing for Radio1 for the last year or so, we get a phonecall to do a demo for a show. Do the demo, convinced we made a right balls of it, seems we didnt, we get the gig. Here was the remit: A specially selected team of DJs that host a new specialist dance show 'The Residency'. We featured alongside Eddie Halliwell, Nic Fancuilli, Crissy Criss, Jon OBir & Kutski, Tayo & Plastician
During this time we never seemed to be out of the Studio, working with Funkagenda & Chris Lake and remixing for the likes of Deep Dish, Mark Knight & Armand Van Helden.
2006 saw a return to Manumission in Ibiza, the Love Leeds Festival, and also debuts at Virgin V Festival in Stafford and O2 Wireless Festival in Leeds.
After serving as part of 'The Residency' team for over a year, we were signed full time to the Radio 1 team. The Aftershow aired each and every Saturday & Sunday Morning 4-7am on BBC Radio1.
