Sounds Like:SONGWRITER TAKES SWING AT LIBERALS ON NEW CD

In his new song "Left Ain't Right," Roger Weber says it's time for liberals stuck in the '60s to "get real."That song and one about global warming that slams Al Gore are among those on Weber's new CD of original songs called "Happy Hour," which shows him on the cover in a white suit dousing the earth with a cocktail.Weber is a local entertainer who has carved out an unusual niche -- writing and singing his own original right-wing, political rock songs. He sang them recently at a bowling alley and also performs at local clubs and private parties, but he often warms up his audiences with old pop songs. He kicked off a recent performance in the lounge at King Pin Lanes in Jeffersontown, where he also played keyboards, with '60s, '70s and '80s hits ("I Can See Clearly Now" and "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay") before singing some of his political songs."He has a different take on a lot of things," said Annyce Steele, a fan who was at the King Pin show."I think my songs are very topical right now," he said. As for Gore, "Let's face it, he's an easy target for humor."Weber said he has attracted fans of all ages nationwide via his MySpace page (www.myspace.com/rogerweber), where he sells his CD for $10. Songs are also available through iTunes. Along with his solo act, he has been playing music locally with the Frosties (named for frosty mugs of beer) with George Dick, a businessman and Libertarian candidate who ran unsuccessfully in 2002 for a Louisville Metro Council seat.Weber played last year at an annual Kentucky Libertarian Party meeting in Louisville. He also has played with Love Jones and the Long Ryders, and his songs have aired on Terry Meiners' WHAS radio show.Weber said he thinks global warming is a hoax and he's not deterred by Gore's recent comments on "60 Minutes" that people who still don't believe in it are "almost like the ones who still believe that the moon landing was staged in a movie lot in Arizona."Weber's songs on his CD also take on the current political campaign, pop culture and technology. In one song, he says he will continue to say "Merry Christmas" rather than "Happy Holidays."Reporter Martha Elson can be reached at (502) 582-7061.
