Sebastian Merk (b.1977 Frankfurt/Main, Germany) has quickly made a name for himself throughout Germany as drummer and pianist.
While living in Frankfurt he was awarded a scholarship from the city of Frankfurt to attend workshops in New York City.Sebastian's teachers were Keith Copeland and Jo Thönes
at the Fransz-Lizt School of Music in Weimar after which he moved to study at the Hans Eisler Conservatory in Berlin.
Sebastian has played with a long list of great players including Lee Konitz, Till Brönner, Ack van Rooyen, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Mark Murphy (on the latest Album "Love is what stays"on Verve), Kevin Spacey and Ernie Watts.
He toured to different Countrys like Italy, Spain, Portugal, Southamerica, Norway, U.S. and Russia
Presently he is working with such different groups as Andreas Schnermanns "W.H.Auden" Project feat. Inga Luehning, Berlin Calling, Spaniol4, Mark Wyand Quartett, Silke Eberhards "Mohnmarzipan", Studnitzky Trio and the Indiesoulband "Cherry" with Marlon Browden and Kurt Rosenwinkel.
In Berlin Sebastian works together with Kalle Kalima, Johann Leijonhufvud, Carsten Daerr, Pepe Berns, Tilman Ehrhorn,Benedikt Reidenbach, Christian Weidner and many more.
Sebastian started his own Band "Merkur" which stretches the elbow from Jazz up to Psychedelic Rock and still far beyond that.
