I am "defying gravity"

About Me

TO MY FRIENDS, FANS & ASSOCIATES:
I am so grateful for the very long run I have had on 106.7 Lite-FM, a legendary NYC station. The decision for me to leave a place called home, turn my back on my comfort zone and "cast my fate to the wind" has been a heart-wrenching one.
I have tons of projects ongoing that I am involved with, but no steady media job awaitng me. It is a very challenging time, as I already miss my work and my daily routine hosting the 1 radio show in NY. But I hope you will check back from time to time (to see and hear!) what I am up to. I have some great new features that will be on my website: www.valeriesmaldone.com that I am cooking up!
For those of you who have taken the time to write me, I thank you for your comments and support.
Here's wishing us all a new and exciting 2008!
Cheers!
Valerie
PS I am please and proud to be working with a brand new network, launching online in February '08 and on cable later this year. Please check back for more information as it comes in.
With more than 2.5 million loyal listeners each week, perennial award winning radio personality Valerie Smaldone had been capturing -- and holding -- people's attention for more than 20 years.
Perhaps best known for her unprecedented success holding the ..1 position in the New York radio market as the midday host of 106.7 Lite- FM, Valerie is also a successful voice-over artist with more than 1,000 commercials, television news promos and movie trailers to her credit.
But Valerie is also a woman with a cause, several causes in fact. As a cancer "thriver," herself, she has lent her well-known voice to the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance, Gynecological Cancer Awareness Month, and the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund to name a few.
As the co-founder of a special events company with her partner Amy Coleman, she has also created, produced and hosted a variety of benefits. And whether she's on-air, emceeing Broadway Under the Stars in Central Park, being interviewed about cancer awareness on the Jumbotron in Times Square, speaking to a group of young broadcasters or raising money for Ovarian Cancer Research, her generous spirit shines through. So community minded is Valerie, she often says if she were President for a Day, she'd mandate that each American donate one dollar to the charity of their choice.
And while holistic and women's health are favorite subjects, Valerie is regularly invited by an array of organizations to speak to diverse audiences on a variety of subjects. "Connecting to Your Community," "Health, Awareness and Responsibility," "Beating the Odds," "Making Millions with Your Voice," "Honoring My Family through Our Heritage," "Hard Work as A Goal" and "Taking Personal Responsibility for Your Health" are just a few of the topics she feels honored to speak on.
"We are all part of a community and volunteering time or money or resources is always a wonderful way to make a difference in the world. I have been lucky enough to have participated in so many amazing organizations over the years.
Due to my personal involvement with ovarian cancer, I definitely like to support the following cancer organizations:
Ovarian Cancer Research Fund @ www.ocrf.org
Gilda's Club, New York City @ www.GildasClubNYC.org
Ovarian Cancer National Alliance @ www.OvarianCancer.org
In addition, I have spent many years hosting events for the March of Dimes, Staten Island branch. So many advances in health care for premature babies and their families have occurred thanks to the money raised by this charitable organization. www.MarchofDimes.com
September Space provides support services for those affected by 9/11. Coming up in November, September Space has an annual Iron Chef cook-off between professional chefs and cooks from New York firehouses. SeptemberSpace.org
I recently was introduced to the fine work done by Stages of Learning. It's an after school program providing theatrical training for youngsters, allowing them to work with conflict resolution and creative expression. " www.StagesofLearning.org
