The Brighton places Ive played include, The Greys, Joogleberry Playhouse, Sanctuary Cella, and Western Front. I have a job in London, which makes gigging in Brighton regularly a bit tricky [ie exhausting], but hopefully Ill be playing somewhere soon.My favourite singers are John Martyn, Nick Drake, Fred Neil and Sandy Denny, but I listen to a lot of blues and jazz stuff as well as rock old [John Fahey, Small Faces, Family, Pretty Things, Syd Barrett, Donovan, Pulp, Smiths, Alex Chilton etc ] and newer stuff [Bright Eyes, M Ward, Young Knives, Clap your hands, Arcade Fire], and I also liked the Eighteenth of May album and the Espers album and the latest Be Good Tanyas is great.I've produced several CDs which I may sample in weeks/months to come, entitled Destination Star [2000], Something You Want [2002], Little Hit [2003], which had a fuller more electric sound, Rock Street [2004] and Briighter Day [2006]. The last two are just me on guitar and harmonica. [I play harmonica on a rack round my neck; there's no overdubbing]In the past I've recorded with other musicians, including the wonderful guitarist Wes McGhee, but lately i've opted to record songs on my own, as I quite like the 'folksy' [ and dateless] feel. Coming from Hampstead North London, I don't think of myself as a folk singer: I suppose you'd class my music as 'singer songwriter', but I try to avoid unnecessary whingeing -- there's quite enough of that around already!If there's anyoneout there who lives in the Brighton area likes the sound of what I do and can play double bass or slide guitar or vibes it would be great to hear from you. Actually i'd be interested to hear from anyone who can play anything reasonably well!!
