I am taking orders for my forthcoming CD which should be about £10.00 including postage. I'm planning to make the album available for sale on CD and downloadable, both via the internet. And then of course the old-fashioned way as well at gigs!
I'm a Brighton based solo artist and have gigged in various locations in the past including New Zealand, London and around East and West Sussex. Busk as well when I just feel like getting out playing there and then! Was voted "Favourite Solo Artist" at the Brighton Music Awards 2003, done entirely by public vote (wow that was such a lovely surprise!). Had some airplay on BBC Southern Counties Radio and various other more obscure stations like in Luxembourg (e.g Radio ARA) , played a live session and interview with BBC Southern Counties Radio on 10 April 2005.
Also played at the Club Tent at BBC Radio 2 Cambridge Folk Festival 2007. That was so incredibly enjoyable. And I'd just like to say a big thank you to all the people who gave such an overwhelming response. The term I usually hear the most about my music is "quirky". That weekend it was "blown away" (and continues to be)! And thanks to Pete who said I topped Seasick Steve - that's a real compliment!
Recently supported (March 2008) Benji Kirkpatrick (of Bellowhead and Faustus) and his "band" Seth Lakeman and Stu Hanna from Megson. A joy and honour - they were amazing to listen to and watch! And I can throughly recommend Benji's album - it's always playing in my car!
I've self-produced four CDs all written, composed and performed soley by little ol' me (yeah and I mean little - I'm 5'2" and I like it!). I'm currently working on the fifth album, the songs are sounding quite different to previous work, with new sounds and new instruments. Thus far it's sounding far more acoustic than previous albums (feedback I'm getting seems to be people really like the pure acoustic songs).
I'm an accomplished chocoholic (oh yes I'm a truly dedicated) although have yet to beat my mother's record of downing a 100g bar of Green and Black's in 15 minutes on the way back from work. Hobbies include designing and making clothes, and hopefully growing an abundant organic veggie patch - if the cat stops crapping over the up-and-struggling seedlings.
Update - Good news! Our cat has now stopped crapping on the veggie patch - God knows how many hours and rolls of chicken wire fencing later! Bad news! Next door's cat is bigger and can jump it! Luckily he just sleeps in it.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: catherineks.com
Band Members: Just me
Influences: Anything that makes a sound! Anything, but I guess Belle and Sebastian, Joni Mitchell, REM, The Monkees, Eels, opera, a lot of world music and the pigeon in the chimney dueting with the dustmen waking me up with the adept clattering of the wheely bins at 6am are good places to start.

The following will give you an idea of why my music might often be labelled as quirky if this lot is or isn't influencing me! Favourite "band" is Eels (virtually all their CDs). I have quite eclectic taste, favourites at the mo in my CD collection are: Kasabian; Janis Joplin; Kaiser Chiefs; Bebel Gilberto, and Ali Farka Toure. Old favourites include: Flaming Lips;, Mercury Rev; Limp Bizkit, to several classical albums, favourite being the pianist/composer Einaudi. Nestling amongst the Manu Chau, Astrud Gilberto, David Gray and Talvin Singh is also some Blink 182, Placebo, Nirvana and then some old 60s/70s stuff like Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Iggy Pop and The Kinks. Confused? Yeah so am I.
Sounds Like: Me, of course! But various comparisons to Catatonia's Cerys Matthews meets Kate Bush, Joni Mitchell, Joanna Newsome, Bjork and Melanie from the 60s. A unique type of voice and alternative acoustic-folk-pop songs that are often referred to as quirky!
