Welcome to my Myspace page!

I started singing in Folk Clubs in the South East / Kent borders way back in 1990 in a place called Farningham in Kent. There used to be a great folk club in The Coach House at the Pied Bull, organised by a folk band called Skinners Rats. Back then, I used to wear one orange and one green doc martin boot. I gained much confidence and in a way consider it where I studied, albeit unconventionally, the art of singing. To my surprise I was nominated for and awarded Best Female Singer In the Kentish Times shortly afterwards.

In 1991 I released an album through an independent label entitled "When You're Ready." The album included an array of old English folk songs as well as some original compositions. The same year I broadcasted live on Radio Essex and continued playing gigs around the country whilst concurrently studying History at University and training to be a teacher. I currently work within the field of Special Educational Needs; for the past six years I have had the privilege to teach pupils with an autistic spectrum disorder.
After graduating and gaining employment, music remained an important and necessary part of my life and while I taught in the day I practised and studied the Piano and music theory privately.

My focus as a singer changed after I began to explore the songs of the English composer John Dowland. Their melancholy and beautiful melodies fascinated me. Shortly afterwards, Matthew and I began rehearsing renaissance songs together, preparing for possible future recitals. We officially formed our duo in 1999 and began performing recitals and also at historical events such as the opening of the exhibition at hall place in 2003. We began receiving good reviews for our work and earlier this year were signed to the small label Pixie-Tricks. I have just recorded my EP and my album of folk songs and the work of John Dowland will be released later this year.

Sandy Denny, Joni Mitchell, Joe Satriani and J.S. Bach are just a handful of musicians that continue to inspire me. I made this layout with help from pYzam , Look at these other Layouts!
