The Story So Far……..Melbourne. Mid-2005. The weather was cold. The moment had heat.Watching a band play in front of a small but passionate audience we figured that in a tight Australian music scene too many great acts were slipping though the net, for one reason or other.Just between us, the ambition was modest: Press a few CDs and sell some copies at gigs. Get the bands some profile. Give their fans something to take home. The first signing was Airway Lanes, the band that inspired us that night. Their debut release, a self-titled EP came out in April 2006.Airway Lanes proved an irresistible mix of crunching rock guitars and melody. Six months later the band was selling well in stores across the country, had won great reviews in the media, had its music featured in films, been selected as iTunes Single of the Week, been picked up nationally on Nova and appeared as the house band on Rove.Continuing the crusade, Dust Devil Music added Ben Smith, a talented and hard-working singer-songwriter, to the roster. His debut EP Whiskey Sunset was released in October2006 and has already garnered attention. We plan on sending Ben and his great live band up and down the East Coast during the Australian summer.Back in Melbourne, we are getting Blackchords ready to leave the house. The band came to Dust Devil Music’s attention with an amazing video clip, directed by Kas Burgess.
Importantly, a brilliant song, “Broken Bonesâ€, matched the clip.We love Blackchords. In 2007, you will too.Director Kas Burgess, the man behind Blackchords Broken Bones clip and an exciting talent in his own right, has since become part of the family.Kas directed the video clip for Airway Lanes’ “Desire†and made a short film on Ben Smith. The people behind Dust Devil were raised on a diet of great songs and great live acts. So when Melbourne favourites Icecream Hands asked if the label might be interested in releasing their sixth album, we jumped at the chance to be associated with these legends. So, 2006 was great. But we’ve only just started.
