Codeblack Entertainment will release Maurice Jamal’s award-winning film, Dirty Laundry in New York and Los Angeles on December 7, 2007. The film will expand to select cities nationwide on December 28, 2007. Dirty Laundry is a modern day prodigal son story with a twist starring Rockmond Dunbar (Prison Break, Soul Food) and Loretta Devine (Waiting To Exhale, Dreamgirls, Crash).
Dirty Laundry follows Patrick (Dunbar), a New York magazine writer, who seems to have the "perfect life," until one day there is a knock at the door. On the other side stands a secret that brings him face to face with the traditional southern family he hasn't seen in over 10 years. Dirty Laundry’s supporting cast includes a colorful array of character and comedic actors including Jenifer Lewis (Antwone Fisher Story, Jackie’s Back) as Aunt Lettuce, Terri J. Vaughn (Daddy’s Little Girls, Steve Harvey Show,) as Jackie, Sommore (Queens of Comedy, The Parkers) as Abby, and comedian Alec Mapa (Ugly Betty, Desperate Housewives) as Daniel. Supermodel/TV Host Veronica Webb and gospel legend Dr. Bobby Jones also make memorable cameo appearances.
The film won several awards during its 2006 festival tour, including the Blockbuster Audience Awards for “Best Picture†and “Best Actor†(Loretta Devine) at the famed American Black Film Festival (“ABFFâ€) in Miami. At the core of the film’s success are the standout performances from Dunbar, Lewis and particularly Loretta Devine as the hard-edged matriarch of the family, Evelyn. Variety says, “Dirty Laundry…belongs to Loretta Devine. Devine builds a jolly and touching character from the stock figure of a Georgia mom coming to terms with her disaffected gay son.â€
“Film is a powerful medium that can dramatize and sensitize,†said writer-director Maurice Jamal (Chappelle’s Show, The Ski Trip, Make My Day). “I made this film to start a dialogue about acceptance in the black family.
