Sharon Leal is making her major feature film debut in the highly anticipated movie Dreamgirls. Perhaps best known to television audiences for her work on David E. Kelly's critically acclaimed drama series Boston Public, she has also starred in Broadway musicals, and is currently working on her first album.Leal was born in Tucson, Arizona, and raised in the central California city of Fresno. She started singing at an early age and discovered her passion for acting while attending Roosevelt High School for the Performing Arts. Leal's professional career began in regional theatre productions of such musicals as Ain't Misbehavin, Into the Woods, and Little Shop of Horrors.Upon moving to New York, Sharon got her first break, being cast in the daytime television drama series Guiding Light. While her television career began to bloom, she refused to abandon her passion for the theater. Leal soon landed major roles in the Broadway hits Miss Saigon and Rent. Eventually, after receiving critical acclaim on Broadway, she won a lead role in the original musical Bright Lights, Big City at the New York Theatre Workshop, and was also featured on the show's soundtrack.Despite a busy schedule on Broadway, she managed to find time to act in the short film What Are The Odds. The film premiered at The New York Independent Film Festival, and Sharon received the Best Supporting Actress Award.At the urging of several casting directors, Sharon made the decision to relocate to Los Angeles. Within a few months, she landed the starring role of Marilyn Sudor on the Fox Network acclaimed series Boston Public. While writing the fourth season, David E. Kelley wrote an episode in which her character performs a Christmas song, specifically to showcase Leal's singing talent. The day after the episode aired, she received a call from Doug Morris, The President and CEO of Universal Music, offering her a recording contract.Determined to remain true to her dream, and despite interest from a major label, and having worked non-stop for five years, Sharon had different plans. She wanted to focus on having a family. Having confidence in herself and her ability, she declined Universal's offer to make a record. 10 months later, she gave birth to her son, Kai.Her decision to have a family and raise her son hasn't stopped Sharon. She continues to act, and has guest starred on the series Las Vegas and had a recurring role on the series LAX. Despite the tough demands of working in film and television, she has never abandoned her music career, and is busy at work on her first album.Layout made by Carmillion
