About Me
..Karen Morrison, aka K Vibes (Karen Vibes), was born in Brooklyn, New York into a Jamaican family of six children. As the fifth child, American-born to two Jamaican parents, she has managed to maintain a stronghold on her Jamaican culture which is reflected in her soulful singing style. Deeply influenced by the musical genius of Jim Reeves, Billie Holiday, Dennis Brown, Marcia Griffiths and Lauryn Hill, she has fused together the genres of Gospel, Reggae, Jazz and Culture into a blend of rich and mesmerizing melodies.K Vibes always had a love for selecting music and began to take notes with a local sound system in her neighborhood of Crown Heights where she grew up. It was then that she met with artists like Screechy Don and Knight Rider of Vital 2000 who persisted that she not take for granted her talent as a vocalist and sing out as much as possible. Singing and spinning records for fun became a weekly event .
K Vibes defining moment occurred in 1992 during a visit with Sir Tommy's at his recording studio in East New York. When she requested that someone sing her lyrics, Sir Tommy encouraged her to hum the words herself. After the first few notes, she began to sing, and at that moment she began her journey as a vocalist and gifted songwriter, writing all of her own lyrics and an occasional cover song as well.
In 1996, K Vibes recorded her first single as Karen Morrison titled "Raggamuffin Soldier" with Producer Digital English, who released it to rave reviews. Also for Producer Digital English, she recorded "How Long Shall The Wicked Reign". In 1997 she recorded two releases as K Vibes for Don One Sound Recording Co. entitled "Who God Bless," released on a 7 inch single, and "Sister Sister," released on the compilation CD New York New York, Volume 1. K Vibes found her true inspiration as a Reggae artist upon meeting Mr. Clement Coxsone Dodd of Studio One. Impressed with her powerful lyrics and vocal abilities Coxsone recorded and released "Bye-Bye Rebel," which appeared on Studio Ones Dancehall 14 Current Hits Selections. Also with Coxsone, K Vibes recorded the soundclash favorite "Frenemies" for which she has received a generous review in the famous “Natty Dread Magazine†of France.K Vibes has performed in and around New York City with the One Drop Band, Cannibas Cup Band, Ruff Stuff and the A-Team Band to mention a few. She has also taken part in venues such as Central Park Summerstage, the Dennis Brown Memorial Show, Bob Marley birthday celebration at BB KINGS and opening act for artist such as Luciano at S.O.B's. K Vibes has also enjoyed working alongside artists such as Papa San and Lt. Stitchie and Marshall One on the 2008 Gospelsplash in New York. K Vibes has moved the crowd working with JCDC and Black Unity in Jamaica with memorable performances.
Her current singles are on the Ghetto Roots Record Label titled, "Deal With Love", Manila Jeepney label titled, "Me & My MAN" and "Ghetto Cry" a combination with LLoydie Stiff on the Noni Musik label. Presently this talented vocalist/songwriter can be found hard at work in the studio creating her first album that is sure to be an album that will be treasured for years to come...
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin'."
I'm whispering "I was lost,
Now I'm found and forgiven."When I say... "I am a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble
and need Christ to be my guide. When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak
And need His strength to carry on.When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed
And need God to clean my mess. When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible
But, God believes I am worth it.When I say... "I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches
So I call upon His name.When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not holier than thou,
I'm just a simple sinner
Who received God's good grace, somehow!Share this with somebody who already has this understanding, as reinforcement. But more importantly, share this with those who do not have a clear understanding of what it means to be a Christian, so that the myth that Christians think they are "perfect" or "better than others"can be dispelled.
