About Me

I created my layout at KillerKiwi.netSwedish pianist Patrick Jovell was born in Helsingborg in 1960. Trained by Professor Dagny Norling in Gothenburg, he made his debut at the age of 17 with Mozart's C major concerto KV 467. He later continued his studies and took his Master's degree at Malmö Academy of Music under Professor Hans Pålsson. With scholarships from the University of Lund, the Crafoord Foundation, the Ax:son Johnson Foundation and others, Jovell continued his post-graduate studies at the University of California, Los Angeles, and privately with American pianist Garrick Ohlsson in San Francisco and New York.
Jovell's interest in the piano music of A. N. Scriabin led to degrees in musicology and performance, including doctoral studies at the University of Gothenburg and École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales - IRCAM in Paris with support from the French government, the Wallenberg Foundation and the Royal Swedish Academy of Music. This not only resulted in CDs and video recordings but also offered access to rare autograph materials generously provided by the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris and the Glinka Museum in Moscow. The "SCRIABIN ORIGINAL AUTOGRAPH EDITION - critical readings of the original Russian sources" will be available in 2005 through Swedish publishers noteheads.com.
Jovell's seminars and Master classes are enjoyed internationally.
Jovell has been heard in recitals, chamber music and with orchestras in more than 15 countries throughout Europe, the USA and Asia. Jovell's piano videos and short films have been distributed to more than ten countries and have been heard at film festivals and music exhibitions worldwide such as MIDEM, POPKOMM and MUSICORA. During 2002-2003 Jovell was the top downloaded classical pianist in Japan (LISTEN-Japan). The 2004 short film "Russian Preludes" by Nguyen Fasck Brown was followed by another 30-minute production, "Scarlatti Sonatas", shot on location in Italy, Spain and France during 2005.
Jovell has had the great pleasure of co-operating with outstanding Swedish musicians such as Christian Davidsson, Per Enoksson, Jan Hammar, Håkan Hardenberger, Bengt Ola Morgny, Progetto Avanti and Mats Rondin. Jovell's collaboration with composers has resulted in piano works by Carl Faia, Henry Gammelgård, Kent Olofsson and, most recently, a piano concerto by Aloisia Lasko.
The Patrick Jovell Recital Giveaway Programme, which started in 2004 and is sponsored by Huang, Demsky & Partners, Singapore, was founded in order to encourage concert producers, organisations and programming boards to actively participate in international cultural exchange. Mr Jovell is currently a board member of the Swedish Piano Teachers Association (EPTA-Sweden) and the Swedish Music Council (IMC/UNESCO - www.musikradet.se). Mr. Jovell was the Swedish delegate at the International Music Council 2nd World Forum on Music in Beijing, China in October 2007 (www.unesco.org/imc).
During the 2008-09 season, Patrick Jovell will continue his artist affiliation with Radisson Hotels & Resorts (www.radisson.com).
