IF YOU WANT TO BOOK OR CONTACT MATT, PLEASE EMAIL [email protected] Matt Haimovitz has been on an unusual tour bringing solo cello to non classical venues around the country, he has been selling out and leaving audiences standing at jazz/rock clubs, taverns and coffeehouses across the US and Canada. From ABC's NIGHTLINE: "Who would think of moving classical music from the reverence of a symphony hall to a punk rock club? When we first discovered Matt Haimovitz, he was preparing to play New York's famed CBGB, an underground rock club that had never featured a classical artist. This was part of the Listening-Room Tour, Matt's effort to bring classical music to venues where people of his generation could listen to classical music in a relaxed setting.""The musician making this unconventional tour is one of the world's most
renowned young cellists. As a child, he was a protegee of Itzhak Perlman and a student of Leonard Rose. Once Rose needed someone to fill in for him at Carnegie Hall and the 13-year-old Matt Haimovitz stepped on stage. Now at the advanced age of 32, he runs the cello program at the University of
Massachusetts. But it is his road act that caught our attention. Matt
Haimovitz is a cellist who's been taking classical music into places where
it is rarely heard." From NPR News, ALL THINGS CONSIDERED with Host Steve Inskeep"Haimovitz is a major discovery." Chicago Sun Times"I salute Mr. Haimovitz for work that is truly pathbreaking, in that he is forging entries to alternate outlets for the music he loves." New York Times"Matt Haimovitz may be the coolest cellist of our time." The Boston Herald
Matt has been touring with a new CD entitled Goulash. "Bartok meets America"; From Bartok to Led Zeppelin's Kashmir, cellist Matt Haimovitz brings middle eastern and Romanian folk music to the club. cellist is continuing to bring classical music to places it's rarely been
heard, hoping to pick up a few converts along the way." The Boston Globe
"It was some of the most moving and soulful playing heard by this listener
in a very long time. The music seemed to pour out of his cello and wash over
the huddled group....It is also an experiment that may be shedding light on
how classical music can renew itself with audiences of the future" The New York Times..
