MID-ATLANTIC REGION OF THE UNITED STATES - WHERE I LIVE
TRAVELERS’TALES
Do you ever wonder about the astronauts…about their experiences in space?! Not just the physical aspect of weightlessness and adaptation to a strange, new environment, but the mental…spiritual aspect. How does it feel to be separated from the home planet? To see it from the other side…as a unified Whole, with no borders or boundaries. To see that everything is interconnected and interrelated. When you incorporate this new experience into your awareness, how does it change your perspective on humanity, on life…on everything?!
..
For me personally, reading about the astronauts’ experiences answered a lot of questions that I have had…at the same time, it made me wonder. What is humanity’s purpose? Who are we and what are we a part of? We all live together on this beautiful blue sphere, traveling through space. Is it possible that all of the boundaries, all of the differences we fight about exist only…IN OUR MINDS?!
Here’s what the travelers have to say. Let’s listen to them, let’s learn from them for they have been to places most of us can only imagine; they have seen the BIG PICTURE:
“And that whole process of what it is you identify with begins to shift. When you go around the Earth in an hour and a half, you begin to recognize that your identity is with that whole thing! That makes a change. You look down there and you can’t imagine how many borders you cross, again and again and again…and you don’t even see them! Hundreds of people in the Middle East killing each other over some imaginary line that you’re not even aware of and that you can’t even see. From where you see it, the planet is a whole, and it’s so beautiful! You wish you could take one in each hand, one from each side in the various conflicts, and say: Look! Look at it from this perspective! Look at that! WHAT’S IMPORTANT?â€(Astronaut RUSSEL SCHWEICKART, Apollo 8)

***"When you see the Earth like this, and the cosmos like this, and ten times more stars, ten times as bright because of no intervening atmosphere, in full 180-degree view, it's magnificent, it's overwhelming! What happened was a sudden recognition of Heart...it made me realize that the answers to the ancient questions, Who are we? How did we get here? Where are we going?...within science were certainly incomplete and perhaps flawed. This feeling of unity and connectedness was an ecstatic, blissful experience. When I came back, I knew my life had changed. I knew that I had to go find out what was this experience I had had."(Astronaut EDGAR MITCHELL, Appolo 14)
"Wherever you aimed the Hubble Telescope, you had an average of another THOUSAND galaxies...which is a HUNDRED TRILLION STARS!"(Astronaut STORY MUSGRAVE...Story flew STS-61, SS Endeavour, the first Hubble servicing and repair mission).
