About Me

..

Doggie Dog Friend is a not-for-profit Group that finds new homes for abandoned and unwanted pets all-volunteer Organized in 2007. Dog & Cat rescue group devoted to helping adoptable, friendly, dogs & Cats find permanent homes in the Buenos Aires area. Our dogs & Cats reside in foster homes as we feel this offers a better environment for them and provides an easier transition into an adoptive home.

Every day there are thousands of happy, healthy animals waiting in rescues for a second chance. Since our founding, we've rescued over 320 stray and abandoned pets.
When dogs arrive at Doggie Dog Friend p lace they are bathed, fed regularly and recieve vaccinations. They also receive a lot of love. Our volunteers are giving care-takers that also show the dogs love and affection. We try to socialize the dogs and prepare them for life with a new family. The number of dogs that we can accept into our shelter is limited by the amont of space we have

OUR MISSION

TO provide temporary shelter to stray, abandoned, and surrendered animals for the purpose of finding permanent suitable new homes.
TO provide assistance and information to others whose purposes are consistent with the purpose of Second Chance Doggie Dog Friend TO provide assistance and financial aid to prevent overpopulation through spaying and neutering programs.

OUR GOAL

Doggie Dog Friend Goal is to help create a "no-kill nation," where people are responsible for their pets, where there are no helpless creatures abandoned in boxes or left to fend for themselves in parking lots, where there is no longer a need for any healthy companion animal to be euthanized. There are many worthy organizations and individuals working toward this end. The rescue network is communicative and non-competitive. Certainly, progress is being made. But there is so very far to go.

Adoption:

We see the importance of evaluating dogs for temperament early on and providing safe dogs to our adopters.

We vow never to foist an aggressive dog on an unsuspecting adopter and to hold high standards to the dogs we evaluate for our program.

Each year we rescue thousands of dogs who have been lost, discarded, abandoned, injured or neglected. Most are lost dogs who have not been reclaimed by their original owners. We do everything we can to find a loving and responsible new home for every adoptable dog or puppy.

Medical:

All dogs receive medical exams and care.

Prior to adoption, all dogs are given a medical exam, vaccinations for rabies, distemper, parvo, parainfluenza, hepatitis, and bordatella; a heartworm test and preventative, and treament for fleas, ticks and internal parasites as needed. Some young puppies may be too young to receive all necessary rabies vaccinations prior to adoption.

All female dogs and puppies are spayed, and all male dogs and puppies are neutered prior to adoption.

Incoming cats and kittens are examined for general health, illness, injury, parasites and tested for feline viral diseases and provided appropriate medical care. Animals within our care are treated with the utmost loving attention, including medical care, daily walks, socialization, and grooming.

Facts about Spaying or Neutering Your Pet:

Despite popular belief, sterilizing your dog or cat will not make it fat and lazy. Pets normally become fat and lazy because of overeating and lack of exercise, not from spaying and neutering.

Both male and female dogs live longer healthier lives if they are spayed or neutered. Spaying a female eliminates the possibility of uterine and ovarian cancer and greatly reduces the chances of breast cancer. Neutering a male dog will make your pet more affectionate and less likely to roam, get in fights, or become lost.

Think about these facts before allowing your pet to have "just one litter" of puppies or kittens!

Fact One female dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 dogs in six years! One cat and her young can produce 420,000 kittens during the same time frame.

For every human born, there are 7 puppies and kittens born.

Fact An estimated 6 to 8 million dogs and cats are euthanized in shelters each year. That's about 55 percent of the animals entering shelters, based on reports from the National Council on Pet Population Study and Policy.

OUR ANIMALS

These wonderful animals are looking for loving humans to call their own! All of our cats have tested negative for FeL (feline leukemia) and are current on their vaccinations. Our dogs have received their 7-way, rabies vaccinations, and have undergone social training. We spay or neuter ALL of our kittens, cats, and dogs before making them available for adoption.

OUR SPECIAL ANIMALS
In addition to our healthy and friendly animals, we also have those with special conditions that require some extra love and attention! We have cats that are FIV-positive but asymptomatic. There are some older cats who also need loving humans to care for them in their middle and twilight years. Almost all of these older cats were abandoned by their previous owners. We also have cats and dogs that are in need of extra socialization.

What to Do when You Find a Lost Dog

Safety rules for strange dogs:

A lost dog will typically have a collar, although that is not foolproof. Puppies are exceptionally good at getting out of them, and that just might be how they got away in the first place. The first rule on any strange dog encounter, collared or not, is to keep your distance, do not make eye contact and see how the animal reacts to your presence. If they look less than happy to see you, if their hair bristles, they show their teeth or they utter a growl, get away from the dog and call your local animal control. If the animal seems timid or shy, shakes or avoids looking at you, you will want to call animal control as well as scared dogs are often unpredictable. If, however, the dog shows a friendly interest in you, you can then approach the dog slowly, again, without making eye contact. Speak in gentle, soft tones and allow the dog to sniff your hand and initiate the first contact. Again, any signs of aggression at this stage, back away slowly with your eyes on the ground and call the professionals. Never let children approach a strange dog. If you have any doubts at all about the dog, or are just not comfortable approaching a strange dog at all, you can always call animal control.

Reading the collar:

Once you have made contact with the dog and earned its trust, you can check the collar, if there is one, for tags and identification. If the dog has a custom tag with his name and owner information, your job is easy. But there are also two easy identification tags you can use as well to determine the owner. In most states, dog licenses will have an individual number and owner information is registered with the state or county of the license. It's often as simple as a phone call to find the owner. The owners may have participated in a national database of dogs, in which case you will find a tag with a number and instructions on how to identify the dog.

Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends the animals. Especially for animals who are suffering, for any that are hunted or lost, or deserted or frightened or hungry, for all that must be put to death. We entreat for them all thy mercy and pity and for those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion and gentle hands and kindly words. Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals and so to share the blessings of the merciful.-Albert Schweitzer ..
