About Me
The Infidels formed four years ago in Lincoln with the coming together of a group of friends who had been playing in different bands for years, united by a love of punk rock, reggae and piano instrumentals?! Originally playing a mixture of classic punk covers and original material, the band soon found their own voice and became well known for their high energy performances. Their energetic set soon expanded with increasing numbers of their own songs which mixed loud guitars with soulful keyboards and a reggae tinge. They soon built up a following in the East Midlands, playing regularly as headliners at venues before coming to the notice of a national promoter and being asked to support numerous well known bands. Highlights have included supporting or sharing the bill with The Damned, The Levellers, Buzzcocks, Stiff Little Fingers, Glen Matlock, The UK Subs, Marky Ramone, Slaughter and The Dogs, Goldblade, The Vibrators, The Beat, Neville Staples’ Specials and more.In 2006 and 2007 the band played at the fantastic Strummercamp Festival in Manchester, where they were joined on stage by Pablo Cook (ex Joe Strummer Mescalero, percussion maestro, and groove consultant to Moby, Lily Allen, and Pulp). The spirit of this festival, celebrating the life and music of Joe Strummer, has to be experienced to be understood. Similarly, in December 2006 and 2007, The Infidels were one of only two British bands invited to play at the Italian Joe Strummer Tribute in Bologna and Milan respectively. They were again joined on stage by Pablo, and also ex Mescalaro sticksman (and world class Drum Guru) Smiley Barnard. Singer Chris has also sung with Tymon Dogg and the legendry Mick Jones, on the stage at Acton (see photo), while guitarist Chris has played with The Damned, Angelic Upstarts, 999 and others.July 2007 saw the band cause a small sensation with their energetic performances at Guilfest and the Scotland dates. Keyboards, stands, bodies etc. once again ended up in the air, on the floor (anywhere!) as the band hurtled to a climax. They have been booked to play again this July.
Taking their inspiration from bands like The Clash, The Damned, Mescaleros and others, The Infidels have developed a firm following with their supporters regularly travelling across the country to see them. The band has just returned to the UK after beginning the recording of their first album in Seville with Pablo Cook producing and the wonderful Luis at the controls. The sun and vino helped the band expand their sound with the inclusion of Pablo on percussion, and the Don Simon sessions will be available as an EP soon.
