“Big Sound…Someone could make him (The Dirty Truth) a superstar!” JT The Brick- Live review on nationally syndicated Fox Radio on January 21, 2008. ____________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________From “alternative-blues” to “progressive-southern-rock”, The Dirty Truth defies genre categorization. The band sees itself as an honest American rock band with obvious blues roots and a classic-rock sound --peppered by a witty lyrical edge, nasty funk-undercurrent and lightly salted by sweet soul and southern drawl. The guitars are big and thick and the rhythm section is fat and juicy. The Dirty Truth jams, but that in not what they are here to do. The Dirty Truth is here to write, record and perform songs. The jammin’ is just a bonus, or as they say in Louisiana: langiappe- a little somethin’ extra for nothin’. ____________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ ________________________ ____________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ ________________________ Founded in 2006 by singer/songwriter/guitarist Hob Wright (BMI), Hobby enlisted fellow songwriter and blues guitar phenom- Dan “Peavine” Sessler to collaborate and co-manage The Dirty Truth. Hobby and Dan spent the first year woodshedding, songwriting and developing a rhythm section. Kevin McCloskey locked in as the drummer in late 2006, bringing a dynamic range from Bonham to Blakey with backing vocal talent. The Dirty Truth played a few small venues with interim bass players in late 2006-early 2007 before completing the rhythm section with bass player Dane Magoon (Fabled Automatic) in summer 2007. Since that time The Dirty Truth has built a fan base, been aired on Indie radio and praised on Nationally Syndicated Radio (with just live recordings!) ____________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ ________________________Based on Performance at Cafe Diem in Richmond, VA September 12, 2007: “They (The Dirty Truth) have a raw and dirty sound, full of funk, soul and rock and roll…Their originals sound like Sgt. Pepper-era Beatles. “FGIII-Richmond Music Journal, September 30, 2007________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ ____________________________ ____________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ ________________________As of summer 2008, The Dirty Truth has taken the local and regional scene by storm, playing venues such as Heritage Amphitheater, The National, Capital Ale House Music Hall and Monroe Park (Monument Ave 10K) in Richmond, to North Carolina clubs such as The Outer Banks Brewing Station, The Rhino in Greensboro and Stella Blue in Asheville. The Dirty Truth boys have been blessed to share the stage with some American music greats to include: Dickey Betts (RRHOF), Duane Betts and Andy Aledort (Allman Brothers and Great Southern), Velvet Truckstop with Artimus Pyle (RRHOF/Lynyrd Skynyrd), Woody Wood (CMT “Big Break” Winner) & Hollywood Red, Sons of Ralph, Jorma Kaukonen (RRHOF) & Jack Casady (RRHOF) of Hot Tuna/Jefferson Airplane…to name a few! (Booked to open for Jimmie Van Zant/Lynyrd Skynyrd Experience on Sept 20, 2008!) ____________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ ________________________ ____________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ ________________________The Dirty Truth supports their original music habit by performing blues, classic rock, funk and soul covers at clubs and private parties all over the VA area (Led Zeppelin, The Allman Brothers, The Rolling Stones, Grateful Dead, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, The Faces, Sly & The Family Stone, James Brown, Grand Funk, Ray Charles, Muddy Waters, BB King, Elmore James, Junior Wells & Buddy Guy, and Otis Rush to name a few…). The 5 tracks on this site recorded live at OBX Brewing Station by Nebula Live Recording & Mastering are available for purchase, and the band is planning its formal studio CD release for later in 2008.
