About Me

50s I see my Uncle Rod play guitar with The Hay Seeds in 56. Im hooked. He gives me a guitar the next Christmas. I learn Alabama Jubilee. 60s Youngest card carrying member of Southern Rodeo Association calf roping, bareback broncs, a bull every once in a while. Va. State champion 1960-1962 First Band "The Jokers Wild" 1964 Richmond Va. Tripped to LA "Summer of love" 1969 "Street Music", recording/rehearsal studio hung with: Poco, Sweetwater, Blues Project, Billy Picket, Alice Cooper, Flo and Eddie. Can't remember it all but they say it was cool! Till we got run outa town by vampires. Ask Bobby Truax, he has a better memory. 70s 1972 Moved to the bible belt. on a sod farm. Wrote some songs for, "Rosebridge music" delivered a song a week, (Thanks Si), you inspired me to keep writing to this day Springfield Mo. till 1976 ...met Wayne Carson. Met Willy, Its A Hit Richardson. Cool Time. Ozark Mountain Dare Devils, Hang Dog, Donnie Thompson, love you man. Cat fish, river bottom. Back to Richmond in 76. Southern Light more tunes. Mutiny in 78. They Left me for Robbin, figure that. Hair Band with a twist in in 79 new batch of songs. Signed with Wheels Records, touring the south attacked by land sharks. 80s Mutiny in 81, they left me for young guy with a high voice, free again, but pissed. The Offenders in 81 another new batch of songs, couple of records and a good run. Found a warehouse in The Bottom with a few friends, called it The Flood Zone Recording hard core /Beex, White Cross, LaMour, Death Piggy, Ira Marlow. No rest for the weary. Then, Single Bullet Theory, they get a deal with Nemperor. The Dads they get deal with CBS. Still rolling with The Offenders. The Good Guys, The Bop Cats, The Bow Ties, Ten Ten, they get a major deal too. The Limit, Dirty Secrets cant remember, you tell me. 90s Two guys with a cool Idea House of Freaks locked in a warehouse for weeks. Recorded two albums worth of material. They went to LA, I needed a nap. Woke up started it all over again. IMU, Gwar, they get signed. Better digs in the warehouse. VCU Jazz Ensemble, plus countless other blurry projects looking for fame and fortune. The Freaks come back to the east. We do All MY Friends . more fun that eatin hamburgers Even Better digs in the warehouse. Record Terry Garland Trouble In Mind he gets a deal with First Warning Records. Cool! Live at The Flood Zone, Record, Leon Russell, Edgar Winter, Dr John, Danny Gatton, uh oh getting fuzzy again, try back later. The Freaks are back again they bring major deal back home, we do Cake Walk, things are lookin pretty good. The Flood Zone goes under water, I move to the farm, put the stuff in the barn and here comes Bryan, Johnny, Steve, Stephen, Bob, Mark. We record the first Gutterball record in two days. Whew! need another nap. The Barn gets busy, Zag Man Zig, Pattison Rode, Coyote Nowhere, Randy Perkins. Sire Records wants me to do a gay cowboy, we go to NYC stay at the Come Back Hotel, I should have just written Broke Back. Came home broke with a sore back. I chase the musicians out of the stalls and go on the road showing reining horses. I make the top 50 in the world qualify to try out for the olympics. Whew! need another nap. We do the last Freaks Record Invisible Jewel at In Your Ear, they say I cant smoke. I track horse manure in the studio every night. I tell em, its only grass and water. Do another Terry Garland record there The One To Blame. I miss you Joe. 00s My son Adrian realizes his daddy knows how to turn on a tape recorder, hes hooked, here we go again, except theres no tape. Set up in the basement and I show him how. He does all the teen bands in town. I write new batch of songs, we start playing them. Too noisy in the basement. Move across the road. Clair comes in and records Queen of Idaho, The English Channel, Bubba Peanut, some Car Bomb guys do a thing with Carl getting busy again. George Winston is looking for a quaint little place to produce one of his harmonica mentors, Rick Epping we start in 02. were still going today over 200 songs done. Need another nap. I start playing out again. Adrian and his friend Chris, Bruce Courson and I. Two Generations on the stage. Two Generations in the audience. The Olsen Family Band. Wait! Buzz walks in one night. Magic, Mahem and love. Now were talkin! The kid goes to Boston to Berklee, Great, now I got to work by myself. Piedmont Souprise, Che Roue, Butch Taylor, Yewts From South Side, Yewts From Boston, Sara Arthur, Richard Keith A Runaway Brain, another Terry Garland record in the works. 06 worst start of a year ever. Were starting to heal. Gifts from Bryan keep coming. The Offenders called, want to stay in touch, play some, maybe one more run. Friends I haven't seen in years reaching out, making an effort. Were getting a whiskers on whiskers rash, but thats starting to heal too, miss you Bryan. Always wondered what Id be doing approaching 60, I wish you could have had that chance. But I tell you it's the same as when we were aproaching 20. Imagine that.
