About Me

2008 has proven to be a rebirth of sorts for Union City â€¦
Originally known as The Scene , The Peterborough, Ontario based group came from being a bar band playing to a handful of people in May of 2005, to playing to crowds of thousands at two major music festivals in 2006 - North by Northeast in Toronto and The Festival of Lights in Peterborough, and ranking as the 1 band in Canada by UBL.com, based on their 4th place overall finish in the Ultimate Band contest in March 2007. Since then, the band is continuing to make its mark with a rapidly growing fan-base in the Toronto and Ottawa music scenes.
The nucleus of the band, comprised of Matt Crowley (singer/guitarist/songwriter) and Mark Chamberlain (drums), were former band mates in the renowned Gifthorse (the band had imploded days before the major label contract could officially be signed). Mutual respect and admiration for each otherâ€™s musicianship, found them drawn back together with the common goal to make music that matters. With the recent addition of Jason Wells on bass, the band has continued to forge ahead taking their place beside other up and coming music acts across Canada, as one of the best new groups around.
The band are currently in the process of recording their self-titled debut CD (an EP to be released in May 2008).

Sounds Like: "Swaggering chords, brash Brit rock, really a band that deserves to be at the forefront, capturing the essence of some of the era-defining UK bands from the 90’s. As Oasis kick-started the rock and roll scene across The Atlantic over a decade ago, perhaps Union City can do the same with a Britpop revival over here. God knows we can sure use one."
