Lonely Vagabond

Maestro of giving the middle finger to the mainstream

About Me

Prolific music supporter. Guiding light. Independent reviewer. Visionary. I'm Ben. I like music and things. Possibly yours after a show. A musical desperado roaming the streets and venues of Toronto for the perfect performance.
The Toronto scene is tightly knit, decadent, and explosively creative. Musically there's much more happening on a basic level, a hotbed of DIY culture that's larger than the sum of it's parts. The city is buzzing with activity and the potential explosion of subculture is stirring that creative flame. This sense of urgency captures the spirit of Torontopia. A glorification of a new musical attitude, a passionate battle-cry declaring that this city's music scene is as exciting as ever.
"A disembodied avatar of the ineffable spirit of local music," Jonny Dovercourt.

Touched by anarchy

This is the time where everyone reflects on the past year. Instead of making some list, one truly defining moment was meeting John Lydon. (enter the opening riffs of God Save The Queen) Being embrace...

Cultural icons & rockstars

Lately there seems to be a bit of exposure on bands from decades past (magazine features/cover stories) wild renegades who pushed the envelope, perhaps a symptom of a lack of th...

A shift in priorities

As always, constantly supporting music culture in the city. Blogs are interesting because I've done the 'outpouring of thoughts' thing before--they were once called boards and...

Change and Star Child

Over the past few weeks, I attended the Wavelength panel discussion and IndieCan fundraiser, and the common theme was about unity/change/diversity in the music community. And it got me th...

Working Out Words

Life is full of interesting twists. Surprisingly this past year was really eventful, so it kind of makes me wonder what's in store ahead. Toronto is thriving with immense talent, a community of creati...

Now Anniversary Bash

Was at the Now Magazine party at The Phoenix to celebrate it's 25th Anniversary. Basically what you'd expect at these things, packed, bands, musicians, industry types. I didn't expect to stay long, bu...

TO season wrap-up

Realizing that my blog is very un-LV-like (I mean c'mon, why would I bore all of you that I went to several shows a day) here's something I whipped-up for the upcoming Fall Issue of SoundProof, among ...

Virgin Festival

Was at The Virgin Festival on the TO Islands. Broken Social Scene headlined (should've been The Strokes) but I was impressed more with The Raconteurs. A blistering set. Jack White is the ...
