I became interested in country music as a roadie for Slim Whitman. At the time I was flipping burgers at the old Zephyr Grill in downtown Bumpus, Texas. Old Slim pulled up in a Flexible bus as red as a firetruck with little blue lassoes all over it, swaggered in and ordered a double meat cheeseburger, medium rare, with shallots and avocado and sugar sprinkles. He was so impressed with the grease bomb he asked me to join his traveling band.
