About Me

I edited my profile with Thomas’ Myspace Editor V3.6 !
Welcome to National Association of Black Writers (NABW) My Space Page! The NABW is an association (soon to be nonprofit corporation) run by a voluntary board of directors.
Why do Black writers need a national association? Well lets’ take a look at the national Association of Black Journalist (NABJ) for inspiration. In December of 1975, forty-four men and women founded the NABJ. Today, thirty-one years later, that organization had 3,300 members, holds a huge annual convention and is committed to the professional development and support of Black journalists (many of whom turn into writers.)
Black writers need an association for the same reason as Black journalists, to foster professional development and support among writers, to provide benefits such as information about the publishing industry that is of specific interest to Black writers, to allow Black writers to network and assist each other and to give Black writers more bargaining power within the publishing industry. Power in Numbers!
And while there are a number of smaller black writing groups and book clubs and various organizations already in existence, that already support black writers, we need to join forces. We need to bring all of the resources we have in these smaller groups together into one huge National group- and at the same time support these smaller groups in continuing to do what they do, and assist them in growing into larger more powerful groups. Power in Numbers!
But not only that, this is an organization that is being founded as a nonprofit to serve the greater good of the Black American community. The Black Writers Association will pursue broader objectives, such as promoting literacy, especially in urban areas and school systems where illiteracy rates are high, development of Black literary culture, development of Black non-fiction resources for information and educational purposes…and all of this we will do for the greater good. Let’s Help One Another!
