CALE SAMPSON

About Me

A visionary rhymer, who began writing and performing music at the age of 9, Cale Sampson has always seemed to stand out behind the microphone. The music and lyrics of this Canadian talent on the rise is inspired by hip hop legends such as Chuck D. of Public Enemy, Nas and Maestro Fresh-Wes. Cale has developed a rap style that is honest, intelligent, entertaining and lyrical, with a fresh and unique approach that appeals to and attracts a diverse audience.Even at a young age, Cale appeared to be a distinct talent in the Canadian hip hop community. At 16, he and his crew won a Canadian wide Battle of the Bands contest despite being the only hip hop group competing in the final. From this experience, he gained his first glimpse of the potential within him and the path that would lead to realizing his purpose and dream in life; To Bring Appealing Music to Audiences, arouse social awareness, and influence the lives of his audiences in a positive way. The group developed a strong fanbase, were interviewed on television, and were aggressively courted by Sony Music A & R's.During this time, Cale began to explore other channels to express his creative talents. He became passionate about the spoken word and began to act in film and television. In 1998, Cale landed a lead role in the movie " A Cool Dry Place" alongside Vince Vaughn. Cale played the role of a basketball player named "Peter". However, despite his enjoyment in acting, Cale never lost sight of following his passion in life by writing and performing original Canadian Hip Hop music. After his first group went their separate ways, Cale connected with another Canadian based Hip Hop collective called Rhythmicru. This 6-member Toronto-based unit of MC's, DJ's, graffiti writers, and sound engineers pooled their talent and resources together to record and release a compilation album called "RhythmicWho ?!!". This street album featured two solo songs of Cale's ( "No One Else" and Time Linez") and went on to sell out it's initial 2000 unit offering. The next year, the group decided to reinvest in themselves, feed off of the buzz that was growing around them, and go back into the studio to record their second album. In January 2003, they released "Open Canvas" and once again sold out the 2000 units initially offered to the public. The hit song from this album was Cale's revolutionary anti-George Bush song "The Facts of War: Part One". This track was hailed by critics all over the world with rave reviews in Germany, Canada, Switzerland, Taiwan, South America, and the United Arab Emirates. Jason Richards of NOW Magazine, in the January 22nd, 2004 edition referred to The Facts of War:Part One as "the most incendiary anti-war track ever created".The word was out and Cale's reputation and unique blend of "information-rap" storytelling and street lyricism began to travel in the Canadian music industry. Rhythmicru was offered distribution for their next album by Fontana North. The group has also been sought after by one of Canada's premier hip hop booking agents Colin Lewis. Since the release of "Open Canvas" Cale has been sponsored by companies such as LRG, and Dope State Classics and was also hired to write for McDonald's Restaurants new urban oriented commercial campaigns. In addition to his own live performances, Cale has performed with artists such as Guru ( From Gang Starr & Jazzmatazz ), Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth, Atmosphere, Maestro Fresh-Wes, Non Phixion, and Billy Talent. He has also toured in Asia and throughout Canada & parts of the U.S. on the world renowned Vans Warped Tour. Cale Sampson's debut solo album is scheduled to be released in 2008.
