About Me

Efsharp (aka Sam Fleming) is a deejay, producer, emcee, musician, studio and live sound engineer and a teacher/tutor. Intially known as deejay/host and promoter of the FOOOD events and other Word is Mightier Productions, he also runs a recording studio, and is partner in Toronto reggae music label Herb and Culture. Affliated with Hot Pie Records crew, he continues to spread positive messages through the music he deejays and produces. A seasoned performer he has set the party off at Toronto’s finest night spots. Since 1994, Sam has performed over a thousand events, doing everything from hip hop showcases, outdoor festivals, club nights, radio shows, DJ battles, wrap parties, weddings, corporate events, birthdays and fashion shows. He has played more than half of the major venues in Toronto including The CN Tower, The Liberty Grand, The Mod Club, This is London, Church of Berkeley, The Automotive Building, Opera House, Harbourfront, Toronto Island (Virgin Music Festival 2006-07), Reverb, Rivoli, Revival, Republik, Drake Hotel, Gladstone Hotel, El Mocambo, Church of Berkeley, The Distillery District’s various bars and Fermenting Cellar, The Carlu, York and Capitol Event Theatres, Olympic Spirit, SPIN Gallery, The Great Hall, The Social, Fez Batiq/Bside, Gypsy Co-op/Hooch, The May 5th Mary Jane March, TORD Roller Derby games, Supermarket, Promise Sundays on Cherry Beach, Lobby and Empire to name the bigger venues. He has traveled around the world playing overseas in the Dominican Republic, Dublin Ireland, and London and Huddersfield England, as well as out east in New Brunswick. Ontario has been funm as he’s rocked wide range of events in Guelph, London, Kitchener, Windsor, Ottawa, Oshawa, Scarborough, Missasauga, St. Catherines, Niagra-on-the-Lake, Hamilton. As a backing deejay for Toronto’s hip hop group Rhythmicru, he has also deejayed for Canadian artists like More or Les, Two Left, Montreal’s Malicious, ICM, 2nd Thought and Memo. He started by backing Toronto emcees by guesting at Hip Hop night IN DIVINE STYLEand then working with artist The Red Menace, Evren and Enlight. Efsharp has shared the stage with progressive acts such as Guru and Jazzmatazz, Ill Bill, Shad K Warsawpack, Dope Poets Society, Euphrates, Lal, Rhymestone, Labcap and the Monkey Mob, Telefunk Sound System, Nick the Brownman Ali’s Grooveasylum, Moduluk, Noah 23, Rhythmicru, DJ Serious, The Quartertones, Methodology and Notes To Self. Efsharp has performed live on air at radio stations THE EDGE - CFNY 102.1 FM, CKCU 93.1 FM, CIUT 89.5FM (and Project Bounce), CHRY 105.5 FM and been featured with Rhythmicru on Muchmusic for Toronto NXNE in the summer 2006. He also appeared with tag team partner DJ Medley on Fashion Television for their first of twelve appeances for Calvin Klein’ CK One perfume launch in fall 2005 as well as the Virgin Music Festival in 2007. Recently he had DJ'd and mixed bands for Puma events where Canada's infamous Trailer Park Boys partied hard. As a live engineer, Sam has done sound with over five hundred bands and acts including Nelly Furtado, Hayden of JackSoul, Kardinall Offishall, Ray Robinson, Lindo P, Blessed, King Sunshine, Shea, Amy Sky, Doujah Raze, The Hidden Cameras, Masia One and the Ultramagnus Afrobeat Orchestra. He has skillfully handled as many as 16 wireless microphones for a two week sold out run of the Rocky Horror Show at Revival Nightclub, and recorded 17 bands one day at Healey’s for Long and McQuade and Apple Computers promotion. He has mixed Toronto’s production of a broadway style musical Menopause Out Loud at the Capitol Theatre for consistent sold out crowds. In the TV and film world, he has worked as a boom operator on Canadian shows like ‘This is Wonderland’, ‘Regenesis’ and the ‘Latest Buzz’ and as a sound recordist on a documentary called Traffic. The future looks bright for Sam as he heads deeper into music production, his music has been used on TV commercials, theatre productions, dance performances and been included in his eclectic DJ sets. His second home is 94 acres of forested land on Paudash Lake north of Peterborough. Here he is starting to build a alternative building to creat a sustainable retreat and resort. On this land he will facilitate workshops focusing on gardening and cooking organic food as well as teaching and practicing yoga, tai chi, breakdancing, martial arts and music as well as other green minded activities.
