Carla Marshall has been dubbed Canada’s “Dancehall Goddess†by fans and industry professionals alike. With a reputation that’s second to none, this Grammy nominated Juno Award winning Artist-performer is recognized in the arts and performing community as one of the best to have ever held the mike in this genre of music.
Carla has recorded with Sony Columbia in New York under the guidance of Tommy Mattola, Danny Iner and Maxine Stow. She has also recorded music for Island 4th and Broadway in London England and has toured the United Kingdom on a 70 city engagement tour. She has also toured the USA on the “Stir it up†tour in support of her Grammy nominated “Stir it up†release.
Carla, infamous for her live performances, has helped Dancehall to energize popular music by spawning dance moves that helped to make parties and stage performances more energetic. Many dance moves seen on hip hop videos are actually variations of dancehall moves such as the butterfly, the bogle, the blaze blaze, the pon the river, pon the bank, and the dutty wine. Carla has been an immense influence in the dancehall, which, like hip-hop, refers not only to music, but to a whole culture that encompasses music, language, dance, dress, and world views.
CM has recorded with Shaggy, Maxi Priest, and Buju Banton and have performed with a long list of professional artist including once again Shaggy, Maxi priest and Shabba Ranks.
