Giuliano Cavallo is not one to be pigeon-holed. His use of medium, color, style, and genre are so varied and wide I would find it remiss to make such an attempt. Charcoal drawings stand in stark contrast to wildly colorful abstracts. Realistic portraiture with life catching detail compliment directive studies into Escher for just one example. Swirling colors create "Colliding Worlds" and gentle pencil shading create bold statements on mood, and the world around. Indeed the imagination of Cavallo seems unlimited and opens new vistas for the beholder. Subject matter is equally vast as Giuliano captures all he sees in his world. No image is too simple or complex. A browser's delight, the Cavallo Gallery is not a rushed experience. The size and content make for the art lover an extended visit and indeed a place of frequent return. Surprises abound in relationship to Cavallo's choice of subject and medium. He uses all tools in his grasp to capture his subject, and place before his admirers a contemplative work of beauty and thought. RE: "Beautiful Soul" Giuliano Cavallo's Princess Dianna inspired "Beautiful Soul" is yet another example of the artist's amazing ability to capture essence with color, line, and placement. The dark background brings the central image to the forefront of the piece, in an illuminating manner. Much like the darker sides which swirled around the Princess highlighter her to the world. Strong lines define sharp character and at the same time suggest an elegance and vulnerability. Cavallo's use of color particularly for me brings "Beautiful Soul" into complete harmony. Roger G. Taylor was born in Southport and graduated from the Cheltenham College of Art. After working for a number of leading London fashion houses he moved into the music industry as a backing vocalist and writer, working with noted recording artists and musicians. Several of his songs have been recorded with great success, most notably by Randy Crawford and Vicki Brown. During this time Roger compiled three successful books, Marilyn on Marilyn , Marilyn In Art and Elvis In Art . Continuing research in art galleries and art studios around the world throughout the twenty years since the publication of the original Marilyn In Art (Elm Tree Books, 1984), has resulted in this new and exciting collection of portraits of the 'blondest of all blondes' - Marilyn Monroe. His use of medium, color, style, and genre are so varied and wide I would find it remiss to make such an attempt. Charcoal drawings stand in stark contrast to wildly colorful abstracts. Realistic portraiture with life catching detail compliment directive studies into Escher for just one example. Swirling colors create "Colliding Worlds" and gentle pencil shading create bold statements on mood, and the world around. Indeed the imagination of Cavallo seems unlimited and opens new vistas for the beholder. Subject matter is equally vast as Giuliano captures all he sees in his world. No image is too simple or complex. A browser's delight, the Cavallo Gallery is not a rushed experience. The size and content make for the art lover an extended visit and indeed a place of frequent return. Surprises abound in relationship to Cavallo's choice of subject and medium. I always loved to every now and then flip through it because it was so much fun to see the different ways these artists drew or painted (etc) the same subject. I happen to be a longtime Marilyn fan. From what I understand, the author (compiler) of this book, Mem Mehmet, is friends with the author of the twenty year old Marilyn book, Roger G. Taylor (who also did an "Elvis In Art"). I had the paperback version of the Marilyn book, but was lucky enough to get the hardcover version of "Madonna In Art". I am also a Madonna fan (not as much as a Marilyn fan, but...), this book is a MUST for any fan of Madonna! Fantastic, fun renditions of Madonna in every style imaginable, which also makes it great for any artist or art lover. Along with each piece of art is a quote from Madonna herself or a celebrity or author, etc. about some aspect of the superstar which is fun to read. Unlike my paperback "Marilyn In Art" book, the hardback version of this is of the highest quality. Beneath the attactive book cover, the name is embossed in silver metallic ink (which is used throughout the book). Would make a wonderful gift for Madonna fans, artists, art lovers!!! I'd scoop up the hardcover before it's only available in paperback! -----------------------------------------------------------I am a librarian. Over the decades, I have had many art books pass through my hands. The compilation of fine artists by the author is glorious! The author's rigorous research in finding the artists whom he chose to be included within, certainly substantial. In particular, the artist Susan Victor of murrrbeast.com, is included in this book. It is about time that someone recognized her exceeding works. I would highly recommend this book -- especially to those in academia; the field of commercial art; and anyone who simply loves art.
