About Me

I decided to do a page on Global Warming because its a serious issue. Many of you can care less. Probably saying im not gonna live to see the effects of it or really just dont care. But for those who dont really know what Global Warming is let me break it down for you. Global Warming simply means the earth is getting hotter. Why? Its getting hotter because we the people are burning fossil fuel which emmits carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The atmosphere is so thin anything that goes up there will affect it. A little background info on the atmosphere and what it does. When the sunlight goes through the atmosphere some warmth of the suns radiation stays on earth while harmful radiation is emmited back to space(like UV radiation, which cause skin cancer). We need the suns radiation for there to be life on earth without the sun we wouldnt exsist. But with Carbon Dioxide basically clogging the atmosphere more radiation is trapped on earth which is bad. Global Warming is causing more powerful disaster to occur more frequently and more powerful. Scientists have noticed many cities/states that had never gotten hurricanes or tornadoes are now being hit by these powerful natural disasters. Which they think its because of Global Warming. Also the North Pole is melting at a fast rate(not good.) If the ice keeps melting the sea level wil rise, flooding many coastal cities. Also this is affecting polar bears. Since they live in the North Pole they need ice. Many polar bears have been drowning because they have to swim long distances to find an ice cap to rest on. Never before had they found drowned polar bears. This picture shows how earth keeps some of the suns radiation and emmits some back to space.

My Interests

The United States produces 23.8% of Carbon Dioxide in the world. China produces 14.6%. Russia 6.2%, Japan 5% and the other half is divided among the rest of the countries. This image is self explanatory. The sea level is rising. This is just a picture of polar bears. This poor animals have been drowning because ice caps in the North Pole are melting.

What we can do to help out in this crisis: 1. Plant a tree 2. Recycle 3. Ride public transportation when possible 4. Ride a bike or walk to work/school 5. Use fluorescent bulbs 6. Buy a hybrid car 7. Turn off unused energy 8. Unplug your computer 9. Demand fresh air: the Clean Air Act of 1970 reduced pollution, But coal industries are trying to weaken the law. Go to actionnetwork.org/campaign/particle_pollution to tell your representative to keep it 10. Also if you guys havent seen "An Inconvinient Truth" i recomend it to you guys. its a movie by Al Gore talking about Global Warming and its effects.4billion trees were used to make paper in 2005. If we swap paper cups for a mug we'll save 13 million trees this year. Also plastic bags end up thrown away and end up in landfills and they release toxins into our soil and water. We should use and reuse a canvas bag when shopping. We should pick up litter to volunteer go to coastalcleanup.orgThis picture shows a landscape fully snowed and iced and is now melted.

Mount Kilimanjaro is another example of Global Warming. More than 80% of its ice caps have vanished. The ice caps date back as far as more than 11,000 years ago. This mountain has always been snowed on for centuries and in 20 years its ice caps will be gone. This will affect Afrcan people because many depend on its glaciers for food supply. This is one of the last glaciers left on Mount Kilimanjaro.
