“Pervert in a Church” and “Controlled Venom” coined respectively by Daily Telegraph music journalist Nick Cowen and top UK producer manager Dave Ross, aptly describe the simultaneously haunting, sensual, sassy and powerful tones of singer and songwriter Tina Roberts.
She has recently collaborated with legendary and Grammy Award-winning artists and producers, such as Sly & Robbie and The Diaz Brothers (G Unit, Mary J Blige).
Cultivating cutting edge UK underground urban music, she has also teamed up with producer Destruction of mighty duo ‘Lethal & Destruction’, the dirty darlings of BBC Radio 1Xtra. ‘He Was’ is the first offering of this explosive partnership.
Following a stint with a local blues band, singing her favourite classics by the artists who inspired her (Nina Simone, Etta James, Otis Redding, Rolling Stones, John Lee Hooker, Al Green), she began to hone her craft on stages across Europe. From the euphoric theatre of the massive ‘Exit’ in Yugoslavia, the biggest music festival in Europe, to headlining at some of London’s trendiest and most prestigious clubs and bars.
Her first release was alongside UK urban star Estelle on the South East London collective ‘Social Misfits’ double album. Sony Radio Award-winner and ‘Misfit’ member Ace of the ‘Ace & Invisible’ show on BBC Radio 1Xtra and Radio One featured on her track “What Kinda Man Are You?”.
Tina’s music is a reflection of her unique personal vibe: sophisticated, intelligent, classy, sassy, informed. Music for the urban chic.
Tina Roberts is a female artist for the 21st Century. An every-woman. She is most definitely all-woman.
And who knows, she may yet be the brightest star...
