Kenyan beatsmith and executive production mogul Sir Prestige was born in Nakuru, raised in Nairobi and then emigrated to a sunny London mid-1986. His interest into musical production was a natural progression from DJing at local London youth-clubs, house-parties and local night-spots as part of two notable sound-systems he has been a part of over the years. Having dubbed in music production/DJing as a hobby throughout his academic years he decided to pursue this on a serious level after completing his post-graduate degree (yeah, mum wouldnt let me do that before then!).
He formed Social Misfit Entertainment, and Social Misfits a collective of talent affiliated with the label, to help nature the wealth of potential talent around his neighbourhood. As an executive director for the label he sealed a distribution deal for the label with BMG in its first year, has had his artists perform throughout the UK and Africa, graced numerous big magazines, TV shows, possibly initiated some of the guerrilla marketing tactics widely utilised today and is even credited for partly bringing in a few of your favourite UK or East African artists/personalities currently doing big things worldwide.
With a catalogue of 7 albums by various Social Misfits to his production credit Social Misfit Entertainment have been steadily putting it down since 1998. As well as working, collaborating, performing alongside and generally associating himself with just about every UK hiphop artist that was active at the turn of the new millennium Sir Prestige has also worked with a host of artists overseas. He is particularly proud of his Kenyan background and is well renowned within the urban scene in Eastern Africa for helping push this scene. A hiphop fan from way back in the day he is more likely to bop his head to African and International Hiphop. When not banging beats, producing future hits or seeking exposure for his artists the original social misfit can be found producing the station sound for UKs premier and only national black music station, 1Xtra BBC.
Sir Prestige current works-in-progress include sophomore album projects from Social Misfit cohorts IChelmee and Stone Circle as well as assisting in the long awaited debut album by Englishkid, Watu Wangu - an upcoming project showcasing Kenyan talent, executive production/management for Wawesh and hopefully soon another classic Sir Prestige/Social Misfits album. In addition he also has production included on several upcoming releases from other established and upcoming artists in UK, Kenya and worldwide. Stay locked! Meantime new for 2007, foolishFIASCOfilms, Sir Prestige behind the camera and in the editing suite to bring you new videos with affiliated artists.
