Jos de Haas was born in Amsterdam.
Started to play africanpercussion at the age of 12 with his dad.
Inspired by many different african drummers and dancers in the Amsterdam afro-scene,he developed into a professional Jembe player.
With some knowledge of mandingmusic,he went to study Latin/Jazzmusic at the conservatories of Hilversum and Rotterdam,where he got knowledge of Afro-Cuban,Brazilian,Jazz and other Carribean music.
With all this in the pocket,he went to study more Jembe, in Guinea(Conakry)West-Africa,went to Havana Cuba,to study afro-cuban music,a heritage from mainly the Yoruba and Bantu people from africa.
In the mean time He performed/recorded with the Nigerian group Ayakata,crossoverjazz band SFEQ,Brazilian drumband Treme Terra,Theater group Dogtroep,Jembe player Adama Drame,The afro-cuban/eurojazz group Lotz of music(later known as Chango's dance, and started to play and record with the band New Cool Collective.
With the Dutch/Guinean group Africa Sabou Njouma,he toured all over Guinea.
Out of all his experiences,he created his own style,mixing african and carribean percussion.
At the moment he performs mostly with New Cool Collective but also takes/took part in performances/recordings with a.o. Zuco 103,Rednose distrikt,Kid Sublime,Pete Philly&Perquisite, Sega Sidibe and Tony Allen.Recent projects are Mandelectric (manding-triphop),Rednose in Cuba(Rednosedistrikt), Jujubrothers(afrojazz),Sinas(balkanafrojazzragga)and Ready for Freddy(jamband) coming up:Maliblu (crossoverethnicmaliblues featuring Zoumana Diarra on Cora,Balafon and Guitar).
