About Me

FEATURED NEW CD RELEASES:
Two CDs have recently been re-released involving Gil and his music. Both of these may be new to some Gil Evans fans, but they are absolute must-haves!!
GIL EVANS: THE COMPLETE PACIFIC JAZZ RECORDINGS
This re-release (Blue Note, 2006) contains two albums Gil recorded as a leader in 1958 and 1959. The two albums contained within this re-release, New Bottle, Old Wine and Great Jazz Standards, have both gone in and out of print over the years, so it is a great pleasure to finally see them re-mastered and re-released by Blue Note. The album contains some great arrangements by Gil and some outstanding solos by Cannonball Adderley (the featured soloist on New Bottle, Old Wine), Steve Lacy, Art Blakey, Paul Chambers, and Budd Johnson, to name a few. This album is available in all major record stores and online (thanks to Blue Notes distribution) make sure you pick this up!!
GLEN HALL/GIL EVANS: THE MOTHER OF THE BOOK
Even the biggest Gil Evans enthusiast may not have heard of this album, which is a travesty that we hope to remedy here. The Mother of the Book is a beautiful album filled with all the spirit and essence of Gil that has thankfully been re-released through the efforts of the albums leader, Glen Hall. The combination of Glens compositions and Gils lush arrangements/orchestrations create a truly amazing album full of beautiful sounds over a "thick rhythmical foundation spun out by the percussion ensemble Nexus." We are happy to bring The Mother of the Book to your attention and urge you to invest some time in discovering this album. One track is featured in the Music Player, with the generous permission of Glen Hall. We also invite you to explore the album more fully through both Glen's MySpace Page and his Website , where you can purchase the new re-release of The Mother of the Book.
