Juan DL Quake - THE PROFILE
Juan DL Quake, know to those around as Quake has been spinning in the South African underground DJ scene for fifteen years. Born in the Free State, he discovered and honed his true passion for scratching and DJing at an early age.
After moving to Cape Town in the late nineties, he was soon playing at tops venues performing alongside names such as: Luke Vibert (Ninja Tunes), Scratch from The Roots, Cut la Roc, General MIDI, Krafty Kuts and Cypress Hill.
From versatile combination sets of Hip Hop, Drum n Bass, Funk and Breaks to pure dance styles, Quake has has earned himself residencies in Cape Town’s hottest underground clubs, bars and musical gatherings.
Quake has promoted local events like The Mixtape Flavour, Hip Hop Heartbeat, Alternative Nation, Alternation, KO, Dynamite, Nuskool Breaks, Back to the Eighties, Sundowner Session, Night of the Saint Bernard, General Midi, Baobinga. Krafty Kuts SA tours and the South African National DMC DJ Championships 2008.
In 2005 with the loss of a good friend named DJ Choice, Quake started Choice Records an initiative to supply the vinyl starved South African DJs with cutting edge vinyl hot of the press.
Quake also formed the Sound Squad, who hosted the 'New Year's Revolutions' outdoor events for the past 3 years. The Revolutions festival is an overnight new years festival incorporating over 50 local DJs/artists. Check it out here: http://www.soundsquad.co.za/
