About Me

Sound Squad is a dynamic events company based in Cape Town, South Africa. We concentrate on unique outdoor events where we combine styles from various electronic genres into intimate, fun and memorable experiences. It is our aim to become one of South Africa’s top promoters of electronic music and we are not far off that as is. We bring together people from different genre’s and cultures and by working across previous boundaries we are proud to offer someting exceptional and uncompairable.
The New Years Revolution Events
The New Years Revolutions was born out of a group of individuals common love and passion for the electronic music scene and the absence of such an event where friends could gather, en-mass, and celebrate the turning of the new year in a beautiful environment. Previously, in order to enjoy the freedom and the benefits of an outdoor event, namely the beauty, fresh air and nature, one had to look towards the trance scene. Yet, most people who loved different electronic styles did not always want to be stuck listening to trance all night and day long. It was evident that there was a huge demand for an alternative event encapsulating Cape Towns various neglected electronic genre's. Thus, the New Year Revolutions were born.
The Previous Revolution Events
The first Sound Squad event, New Years Revolutions I, took place on Lievland Wine Estate at the foot of the beautiful Simonsberg mountain range on 31 Dec 2005. It was a resounding success with more than 500 tickets sold and a whole lot more eager party goer‘s arriving at the gates, many of whom unfortunately had to be turned away due to the venue bursting at the seams. Over 20 DJs performed along with MCs and VJs and a serious amount of fun was had by all in attendance. It was clear that someting truly special had taken place. This was indeed true, never before had such a fusion of electronic styles ever taken place in South Africa on any one night, if not in Africa as a whole.
The New Years Revolutions II was even more remarkable. Selling well over 700 tickets before hand and boasting an equally emaculate beautiful venue and a line-up of 46 DJs over 2 stages the event was a massive. Tons of people showed up at the gate and to their great disapointment had to be turned away. We must stress once again that tickets are limited. Please make sure you get your tickets early. We have done our best to keep it intimate although there is a huge demand for expansion. This is the reason we have kept the event as invite only.
This Year's Event - Revolutions III
This year, the Sound Squad is planning an event to truly match if not better anything else that has been done in South Africa to date in terms of electronic music. Our sound for the main stage has more than doubled and our previous chillout stage has now become a true alternative to the main stage, and it’s definately not going to be chilled. The second floor this year boasting the sound setup of our previous years main stage.
The two stages, named The Riverside Stage and the "Grassy Knoll Stage" will play host to over 50 DJs and performers. Both stages will be equipped with a world class Nexo sound rig (www.nexo-sa.com) as used by bands like Slipknot on their world tours.
The Riverside Stage set in the missle of a forest running along the Berg river will feature a fully programmed light show with amazing projections on massive screens. Over and above this the night has a full VJ line-up, both national and international.
The Grassy Knoll Stage is situated on a plateau above the Playpen. This stage will consist of a slightly smaller but similar sound setup to The Riverside Stage. Stretched tents, decor and pillows will be used to create a cozy, intimate environment ideal as an alternative to the Riverside Stage. A fully stocked bar under an existing lapa will accompany the stage as well as an array of stalls selling everything from coffee to clothing.
This years event will also feature a Restaurant and a Playpen. The restaurant will cater for all the food groups and will offer a variety of healthy, tasty options set in a shaded area overlooking the Berg river. The Playpen will feature volleyball, badminton, swing-ball, jumping castle's, a water slide, canoe's, lilo's and various floats. Tree nets will be placed in and around the Playpen for relaxing. All this will encourage friendly playful environment where new friends can be made and tons of fun can be had.
This years theme is "Sound Droid's" the decor will follow this theme
The venue will be open from 12noon on the 31st December till 4pm on the 1st January
Camping and parking
Two large cornfields will be cleared to accommodate camping and parking. Camping will be situated a good distance away from both dance floors allowing guests to sleep if necessary. Parking assistants will maintain an organised flow to prevent congestion of access roads.
Artists Performing
The event will play host to more than 50 local and international artists, many of them at the top of their game. Apart from this we have allocated sets to up and coming artists. This enabling them to play in a professional environment allowing them valuable experience thereby stimulating the future scene as a whole. Combining our immense knowledge of event promoting with attention to detail and always adding that little bit extra we have planted a much needed seed which will stimulate the growth of the SA electronic music scene placing it on par, if not surpassing our international affiliation. This, in turn will generate a global interest in our local music world opening doors for artists to perform at an international level.
