About Me

Flamenco Arts Northwest (FANW) was founded in 1996 by Marcos and Rubina Carmona as a means to help fund the growth of the flamenco arts in the Pacific Northwest. Functioning as a producing entity, FANW has presented numerous professional shows and workshops with Carmona Flamenco and student performances with La Peña Flamenca de Seattle. Also, each year, dance workshops with invited guest teachers from the international flamenco dance community have been featured.
FANW's board of directors is comprised of flamenco aficionados and students of Carmona Flamenco. The board is comprised of working and professional people dedicated to enlarging the public's opportunity to see and experience the music, song and dance of Andalucia.
Over the past several years, the annual La Peña concert has moved from a small, 90-seat hall to a beautiful 200-seat facility. Comprised of talented amateurs and emerging professionals, La Peña has provided both a learning and performing environment as well as a great social opportunity for a wide array of adults and mature teenagers.
FANWs Carmona Flamenco has sold out every formal concert performed in the past several years. This group is the only professional resident troupe in the Seattle area and often performs with guest artists.
Future plans for FANW include an expansion of its performance schedule and the continuing presentation of guest teachers and performers. We also will begin to include educational materials about flamenco on our web site.
