He belongs of a familiar ancestry of musicians and was influenced by Altamiro Carrilho, one of the most important flutists of Brazilian Music, an alive legend of Brazilian Choro. Also, when Carrilho was a child, for long years he saw and listened his grandfather that was a pastor of Baptist church, playing saxophone and his mother pipe organ and piano. Then, absorded in this environment, young child started studying classical guitar and music theory with 7 years old. He debuted on the classical guitar with 15 years old. His teacher on the classical guitar was Mra. Rosa Platz, Mra. Sandra Maria Pereira, Mr. Gualtieri Beloni Filho and Mr. Professor Henrique Pinto. On composition he studied with Raul do Valle, Achille Picchi and José Augusto Mannis. After many years dedicated for the perfomance on the instrument he decided to put on score his ideas which were on his mind for all these years. Since then he has been devoting his life to perform, to compose and to teach and share his knowledge with the people. His music is a mix of many different genres and music styles as, for example, brazilian folk music (bossa nova), baroque music, contemporary music, rock music, and all the great musics made for the great humans. He is a composer member of CDMC-Brazil/UNICAMP: Brazilian branch office of Centre de Documentation of La Musique Contemporaine - Cité of la Musique, Paris, inaugurated in 1989 in the scope of the Brazil-France Project (Années France-Brésil). His work 'O Despertar do Anjo' was awarded in XIV Biannual of Brazilian Music the Contemporary promoted for the FUNARTE - National Foundation of Art, the Ministry of the Culture. Carrilho was a writter of the magazine "Cover Guitarra", with distribution in all domestic territory and countries as Japan, United States and Portugal, where he presented his article "the History of the Guitar and Its Evolution". Currently, he is collaborating to "VIOLÃO PRO" magazine showing articles, arrangments and transcriptions for acoustic guitar. Mr. Carrilho was invited to present an article, in May 2005, on the International Symposium Iannis Xenakis, in Athens, Greek. In June/July 2005 he participated in Oregon Bach Festival, Oregon State, United States. Journey to Eternity was composed for steel string guitar and live electronics programmed by the composer and performed alive for himself. The 'EVENTVM III', for clarinet, trombone, percussion (2), classical guitar and violin, was premiered at XVI Biannual of Contemporary Brazilian Music, promoted by the FUNARTE and sponsored by Brazilian Academy of Music in 2005. In October 2007, his new work Profusão5 (Toccata), composed in 2007 for percussion quartet, was premiered on XVII Biannual of Brazilian Contemporary Music and it was a very successful on audience which received international complements: “Profusão 5 - Toccata (2007) by Frederick Carrilho closed the evening with a bang, skillfully integrating percussion elements from popular music into a clearly-structured large-scale work.
