FUNHOUSE FORMED IN 1986.
IT ALL BEGAN WHEN GUITARIST MARC VACHON (OF THE EARLY L.A. PUNK ROCK BAND MAD SOCIETY) WAS INTRODUCED TO VOCALIST CHRIS'T HAZARD, BY MUTUAL FRIEND TRACII GUNS.
GROWING UP IN LOS ANGELES THROUGH THE KISS YEARS, IT WASN'T HARD FOR THE MEMBERS OF FUNHOUSE TO BE INFLUENCED BY WHAT WAS GOING ON IN THE EARLY L.A. METAL SCENE (MOTLEY CRUE AND WASP) P.S,(post Kiss), FUNHOUSE HAD BEEN RAISED ON A DIET OF BOTH ENGLISH AND AMERICAN PUNK, BATCAVE GOTH, ROCKABILLY, SOME EARLY METALLICA AND A BIT OF FINNISH GLAM... THE END PRODUCT BEING A BAND WITH AN UNDERSTANDING THAT BOTH IMAGE AND SOUND NEEDED TO BE HIGHLY CHARGED, PROGRESSIVE AND HEAVY.
PROMOTERS DAYLE GLORIA (SCREAM) AND RIKI RACHTMAN (CATHOUSE) HELPED THE BAND TO DIFFERENTIATE THEMSELVES FROM THE OTHER STRIP BANDS, RECOGNIZING THE BAND WAS CREATING IT'S OWN NICHE (PUNK, METAL, GOTH, FUNK, JAZZ, etc.) BASICALLY THROWING OUT THE RULES THAT HAD STIGMATIZED THE LOS ANGELES ROCK MUSIC SCENE. CLUBS LIKE DAYLE'S AND RIKI'S ALONG WITH WHITE TRASH AND, ENGLISH ACID, WHICH WERE BOTH RUN BY JANICE DESOTO, ALLOWED FUNHOUSE (ALONG WITH L.A. BANDS JANE'S ADDICTION,L7, LIQUID JESUS, CELEBRITY SKIN, THE NYMPHS, DROWN (known then as yesterdays tear), WHITE ZOMBIE (who moved to los angeles in 1990-I think? or they were just hangin out quite a bit taking in the sights and sounds), as well as SHRINE, and the ELECTRIC LOVE HOGS) TO HELP DEVELOP THE L.A STREET ROCK SOUND.IT HAS BEEN SAID THAT THE POCKET OF TIME BETWEEN THE G N R EXPLOSION AND THE BREAKTHROUGH OF NIRVANA WAS A TIME OF ULTIMATE BLISS IN THE L.A. CLUB SCENE. THAT SHORT LIVED BUBBLE HELPED CREATE A SCENE FOCUSED ON CELEBRATION AND CREATIVITY UNLIKE ANY OTHER TIME IN THE L.A. ROCK SCENE, ALLOWING FUNHOUSE TO SHARE THE STAGE WITH THE LIKES OF SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, SLAYER, SOUNDGARDEN, GUNS 'N ROSES, WHITE ZOMBIE, MOTORHEAD, MEGADETH, THE NYMPHS, L.A GUNS, THE DAMNED, NOFX, DANZIG and JANES ADDICTION among many others.
BEFORE THE RELEASE OF THE GENERATION GENERATOR RECORD (CAROLINE 1989), FUNHOUSE HAD A FEW MEMBERS THEY WOULD LIKE TO MENTION: JAIME HARRIS, DRUMMER ON THE LIVE TRACKS ON THE ALBUM AND A FOUNDING MEMBER (PLAYING THE FUNHOUSE SHOW IN 2002, AT THE VIPER ROOM) AND ALSO MARY MARY THE BASS PLAYER (PIC) IN THE EARLY PHOTOS AND BIG MARK! ENJOY THE PAGE! AND THANK YOU FOR STOPPING BY!
